Wind deflector for the 968 Cabriolet - Kaj Hallstrom - 04-02-2017

I have seen them on most new cabriolets and on some 968's. Where can I find a reasonably priced one (ebay $349....that's over the top) and how is it to install?

Any experience out there folks?

I recall they mount to the shoulder belt mounts, which makes me wonder if they will work on a cab with the D1R "roll bar". I have the bar and would like to have a windscreen, but I'm not sure the bolts are long enough to take any additional mounting hardware.

Anyone out there have experience with this?

This is what I would like. Not sure how it is attached.

The one that I have mounts to 2 right angle brackets that attach at rhe seat belt anchor points.

It has no problems with Flash's roll bar at all.

This one looks like the OEM one that has brackets and straps.

It fits into the round covers for access to the bolts for the top. The ones you disengage if your motor fails. You have to customize mounting a bit for the chassis brace (roll bar). I got mine from Sunset... and @ $350 sounds like it's in the vicinity of what I paid. It would be one of the best investments you could make though! Comfortable top down driving, down to @ 50*! Just saying

That make sense. Are those the only connection points on each side? I do not have a roll bar (Flash is "fresh out") so there is no interference. I hear that's not an issue to begin with anyway. Sounds like this is a "home job" not too complicated.

lol - i designed the chassis brace to work with the OEM wind deflector., right up to the "bump" in the top bar that matches the profile of the deflector.  all you have to do is swap out the front legs for straps and shorten the rears

the OEM wind deflector only "connects" at the side points in the panels.  you pop out the plugs and insert the ones that come with the deflector.  then, the rear legs just go down and sit in the gap between the rear seat back and the side panel.  there is a hook on an elastic band that you hook onto the hinge, but that's it

too bad you didn't catch me when i was selling the white car.  i had one in there, but sold it to the guy that bought the black car.

Well Flash, you win some and you loose some, cest la vie.

PS: I think I know where to find one priced right....to be continued!!

So to cap it off. How good is a wind deflector on a 968 Cabriolet?............need reports my friends.

night and day difference in cabin comfort.  after having had one in both cars, i wouldn't drive one top down without it

My wife can light one of her cigarettes with the wind deflector deployed. She can't without it - that is when I can talk her into putting the top down.

Good news!...I found one and it is on it's way to California. I will be ready for a mild ocean breeze coasting down the Pacific Highway and not some obnoxious wind hitting your back head....Thanks for all the comments.

Seems to me if you're concerned about "wind" it completely defeats the purpose of having a cab in the first place ...

Wind deflector for the 968 Cabriolet - flash - 04-11-2017

lol - nope - it's all about where the wind goes and with what force.  we want the sun, but not so much of the wind.  we also don't want to noise of the windows or a sunroof.  i have sunroofs in all of our cars, and don't use them, because they are too noisy.  way worse than having the top down on a ragtop.  it's not the decibel level, but rather the concussive beating on the ear drums.  it's actually painful.

Wind deflector for the 968 Cabriolet - Kaj Hallstrom - 04-12-2017

Yep...it's all about fresh air, sun and the smell of nature that's makes a Cabriolet fun, not the draft in your neck, The deflector should take care of that.

Not for me, even with a deflector there's still enough wind to mess with the glass of wine I'm trying to hold steady , and simultaneously keep dust out of it .
