Hey guys, I got my car in the USA about 5 years ago, the fellow I bought it from had a loan against it and we paid it out and the bank released the title to me. I just want to make sure they took the lien of properly (if there was one) and that there aren't any other older liens on title.
Do any of you guys have a way to check if I give a VIN, I did a
www.carproof.com search and it tells me a lien "record" was found but doesn't distinguish if it was pf a past lien or a current one....Any help greatly appreciated.

dmv can do that for you - AAA can too, if your'e a member, regardless of you your insurance company is - your insurance company should be able to do it too

If you have clear title to the car I don't see that you could have any possible problems.

yeah - me either - any lein should pop up on the leinholder section of the title
but, if you really want a transaction trail, just for piece of mind, you can get one as i indicated

If your current title shows the lien on it then you need to get a lien release from the bank.

Agree, if the title shows a lien, then get a lien release. Time is of the essence here, as I've learned the hard way. Tracking down a previous owner/lender months/years later can be a problem.

Hey guys,
I think everything is ok, I am Canadian so I don't understand your system fully. Here we don't have "titles" per se, just vehicle registration papers. I dug out the title after your replies (it is a Kansas title) and there is a stamp in the lower right that says lien released, the name of the bank is also included in the title certificate. US Customs had the document for a few days before the car was exported to verify so I assume it is all ok. You often hear storid though about someone with a situation when the bank forgot to remove the lien etc etc..

If it says released you are in good shape.
