Stupid little problem - rkatz - 05-12-2006

I've seen a few references in here to this issue. Any quick, cheap, and/or simple fixes to the lame, broken, plastic glove box hinges?

I love this car, so I want to keep it in the best shape possible. It's a little thing, but it matters.

Grasshopper, there is an easy, cheap and quick fix indeed!!!!!!!

Call:

Zimz

800/356-2964

Zimz has a "kit" which has two new steel arms for about $25 bucks; and includes directions.

A screwdriver and a half an hour and you are fixed.

If you want a "factory" look, paint the new steel arms matte black for a nice matching finish.

Excellence has an article on this about 4-6 issues ago, if you want to read up on the subject.

However, call Zimz in the meantime and get your quick fix kit on the way. Maybe even pick up a can of matte black spray paint while the kit is in transit and you're good to go.

It's gone up in price: http://www.allzim.com/acatalog/Glove_Box_D...t__944_968.html

Paragon Products (our sponsor) also carries them: http://www.paragon-products.com/product_p/jbab.htm

There is a nice DIY writeup on this problem as well: Glove Box Repair Instructions. It worked perfect for me!

Had the same problem. Went to a DIY store, bought 2 metal hinges for $2, screwed them in carefully and painted it black.

To me it actually looks better than the original and never ever broke again (3 years now).

I used the DIY to make mine out of maple instead of metal! Love it, works great!
