Any advice on children riding in a 968 - afpintek - 06-08-2006

Hello all,

I have a 6 year old son, is there a booster seat or some type of seat that can be put in my 968, so he can ride in it with me.

Any help would be appreciated

Anthony

check your local laws - some states prohibit them from being in the car for different reasons

I presume you are talking about riding in front, as the rear is no problem as long as your kid actually fits and doesn't mind staring at the back of the front seat.

My kids have ridden in my 968 up front after one simple modification, the disabling of the air bags. I put the seat all the way back and they raise it up so they can see and everything is good, legalities aside. I think you have to really push it to get ticketed for underage in the front seat.

No way would I suggest putting a child in the front with the 1st generation airbags functional. The ballistic package is pretty aggressive on these cars and has been known to go off in minor fender benders or circumstances that were not related to an accident. I don't want to imagine my kids with azide burns. The dealer cost for airbag related repairs is about $8000, which is another incentive to remove them.

There is a thread here that details some of the proceedure for disabling or removing them.

again though, check your local laws - some states require kids to be 80lbs to ride without a booster seat, and some prohibit them from being in seats without shoulder harnesses altogether

On the matter of specific child seat selection, I'd suggest consulting "Consumer Reports" magazine.
