I have the air Compressor kit but no spare tire. Would you recommend replacing it only with the porsche spare and if so why?

i've never done that, as i have only used one once in my life, and it was not a collapsable one - mine currently sits on a shelf
but, if you are going to replace the emergency tire, i would make sure that you replace it with a tire that is the correct outside diameter both inflated (so your abs works) and collapsed (so it fits in the space) - other than that, i see no reason to use a "porsche" tire - however, i would call a tire company and see if there are any other complications with the emergency rim and fitment of a tire

I would only replace it with a genuine Porsche spare wheel & tire from any of the 944/968 series(available from a salvage yard) for the following reasons: I would want it to fit in the very limited space provided; I would want to be sure it fit the car when I had to use it; I take my 968 on cross-country trips frequently and do not trust the "fix-a-flat" goop currently available. Good luck, Bob Blackwell.

i agree with the fitment concerns - since porsche does not make the tires, and paying a premium for what they sell, just because they sell it, seems like a waste, i would consider other manufacturers, if they met all the criteria
we do that with other parts, including tires, why not the emergency spare?
i am also hainging onto mine for the same reasons

I have a little road trip planed in the near future myself and venturing out there w/o a spare is not an option. Ill try a salvage yards. Thanx

The collapsible spare is handy when you need it -- extra weight when you don't. I'd carry one unless you have some other use for that space, or want to reduce weight. If you get a spare, I'd make sure it's from a later year 944-series car. Some of the 944 spares are of smaller wheel offset or only 15" in diameter (won't clear your brakes). I'm not a big fan of "fix-a-flat" -- it's messy to clean the rim after using it, it's still not a permanent fix, and it can blow up in hot weather and mess up your entire interior (just happened to some poor sap with a 944 on Rennlist).

lots of new OEM spares on eBay. I think I paid something like $20 for my last one which was new, perfect painted alloy rim too.
here's one
