Hello all, I've been checking out the forum here for a few months, reading the ups and downs of 968 ownership, waiting to get mine from Seattle to So.Cal. Well it's here! I bought this from my father-in-law, who is a Family practice Doc. in Lake Sammamish/Issiqua (sp?) area east of Seattle. He bought in new in '94 and had all the work done at the dealer ship for the first 6 years, (he bought the extended warrenty) then had everything done at a local Porsche shop in Lake Sammamish. It is Slate Grey Metalic with grey part leather interior and had a little less than 63K on the oddometer (64 now ) and is on it 3 set of brakes and 3rd timing belt. It has seen it's share of Pac Northwest weather but other than a couple of door dings and shrunken rocker seals, it is in great shape. And of course buying from a family member I got a screaming deal
It does have rattle in the right rear suspension that needs to be addressed, and the cool 1994 motorola hands free phone system need to vacate the vehicle. I'd also like to do the stage 1 chip and air box mod, get a new muffler and perhaps some 18 or 19" wheels. All in good time.
This is my seventh Porsche, second with water. However, I currently only have two. This 968 and as you can tell by the name a 914. '74 914 6 conversion that I built using a '68 2.0 E engine and S pistons.
It was very nice meeting a few guys at the GAF and look forward to fun run or get together in the near future. Does anyong here go the Village Coffee Roaster in Thousand Oaks on Sunday mornings?
Thanks for the bandwith

Hey Mike - Great car. I had a slate grey 944... still miss that car. It's a color that only grew on me over time. Plus, it never looks DIRTY!
I vote to keep the car bone stock. Why? Low miles, original M030, 2nd owner car, 60k miles... Yup, I wouldn't do anything other than ditch the phone part and drive that baby.
Also, I'm kinda partial to those fat 5-spoke Cup wheels that came on the car. Looks like you got a beauty.
Enjoy and welcome!

Welcome to the forum -- there's quite a SoCal contingency on this board. You can expect an e-mail from Flash in a little while, if you haven't gotten one yet.
We haven't done the Thousand Oaks things, but have done the Crystal Cove thing -- but not in a while. Maybe it's due time for another?

Welcome to the fam.
When I was in the market for a 951 I was looking for that slate grey color I love it. Dave makes some very good points as to why you should keep it stock but its your car so to each his own. It may be a good idea to hold onto the orig equipment. I'm looking to add the 18" twist to my 68. As I stand back and look at my car the wheels look to small for it. i figure the extra inch along with the style of the wheel will complement the appearance.

Welcome! Great color! I used to own a 951 that was Slate Grey, loved that color!
I second the, "leave it alone and drive it" motion!
Again, welcome to the community...

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the 968 community. You have a great Porsche, make all the changes you want (and can afford) and enjoy it, that is what they are for. If you bought it to resell for a profit later on, then keeping it stock is the only way to go. Otherwise, there are a lot of things which can improve the enjoyment of the 968. good luck, Bob Blackwell.

Thanks for all the great comments. The considered mods are very minor and I am a believer in stock and not making changes that can't be put back. Really the first thing I'm interested in is wheels. The 17's just don't fill up the well's enough. In '94 17" was the BIG wheel. But now the Fiske or HSR wheels look so cool and in anodized smoke or grey would be awsome.
Oh and then the sound, I can live without the chip, but a more burly sound would be nice.
