BASIC RULES IN FINDING A GOOD 968:
Good service records with timing belt and water pump changed in 45000 miles interval.
Clean engine bay with everything tight.
Clutch/tiptronic in good working order. (Normally would be changed around 70000 mile)
Paint exterior well maintained.
carfax clean

I found mine using AdHunter, which searches all the Craigslists at one time. It made searching a lot faster, and I could choose the region that I wanted. Mine was in Thousand Oaks, an area that I would have never searched when I was doing one city at a time on Craigslist.
And as was mentioned above, look at the records and get all the information you can. There are some nice ones out there, but there are some complete money pits, and I had to walk away from a few because I could see that the price of the car was just the beginning. I think Flash had a quote in here about nothing being more expensive than a cheap Porsche.

Good luck with your search...I too used a nationwide search on craig's list, also used ebay (where I found mine), auto trader, etc.
From what I've read, there were only about 2,248(?) cabs imported into North America and I wanted a cab with the manual transmission (my only regret is I didn't buy the "raspberry" cab with a tip because I wanted the manual)...so, there weren't that many out there and who knows how many are left...
Again, my suggestion is to try a nationwide search. Finally found one in Tennesee that was kept in a garage and you could see was loved - - and at the right price.
The downside is that it took about 6 years to find the one...
