Gentlemen,
I am having a problem aligning the rear deck lid on my car. I realize that in near impossible to get it perfect but I would like to have it be at least as good as my old Mustang.
Right now the rear gap (the back of the car) is too wide on the right. It was too wide on the left and also had a wider gap along the left side before I started to mess with the mounting bolts.
I have the left to right gaps almost right now, but I have this widening gap going from right to left on the rear.
Should I just keep messing with it or is there a trick one of you guys has figured out or should I take it to a body shop?

I hate to go OT, but I can't help myself. There's a thread in which I asked "What can I say bad about RSBarn? On this thread, I'm going to ask "Is there anything we can find on our cars that Flash hasn't done, worked on, or otherwise touched? Right now, I'm going to guess that the cigarette lighter in his car is unmodified. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
Sorry for the diversion, we now return to our regularly scheduled programming.
My trunk lid has been fine, the only thing I've done is replace the seal - and, when I get the car painted, I'm going to have the third brake light removed in favor of another approach. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Thank Bob,
I am guessing I'll have time to fiddle with it next week after the clutch is done.
As far as a picture of what it's like right now I won't be able to get it to you until Sunday night if then.
Tonight I am going up to Paso for the Zin fest. Of course without the Porsche since I just got the right socket for the clutch. BTW, thanks for the info on that little jewel.

I will be at Tobin tomorrow night. Look forward to their big ass zins. It should be a kick. My brother inlaw makes great zins just a couple of miles away from there. Been doing that for years.
Cheers

hey Steve
I've been messing with mine for a while, seems that i get it alighned just right
and hit a few bumps and there it is again "wider on the leftside" i've lust
decided to let it go, because the next time i look at it it will be fine.
Maybe a new seal would help? good luck

I assume the car is a drop head
Mine is not perfect.
After doing the hood jobby i noticed mine was nearly touching on the right so i adjusted the lid to the best all round position.
The correct lid height can be adjusted by the slam pads front and rear, the ones by the hood slacken the 10m bolt, the round buffers turn and they go in and vicesaversa go out. also the hinges, put some vaseline jell to stop the rear pads squeek when touching and to let the lid centre its self.
Hope this is some help and not telling somthing you already know.
Pictures of my gaps.

Thanks for the pictures. One of the problems with our cars is there are very few around to get a look so now I can see that my gaps are way out of whack.
You mentioned an adjustment at the latch or at the rear. I don't see anyway to make the latch lower and that's what looks to be needed.
BTW, what does that motor in the latch area that drives after opening the deck with the key? Mine doesn't seem to do anything.

Hi Bob,
I'm back home in Altadena after to much wine up in Paso. The James gang was will represented at the winery. 14 restraints were there with great food. They had 5 bands that just rocked the place and all the wine we could drink. I was glad that I only had a couple of miles to go that night. Highway 46 was pretty wicked.
Anyway, back to work here. The deck will get my attention next weekend.
Cheers
Steve
Hi Winger
I will take a look at the rear deck tonight to see if I even have these.
Thanks

Steve you asked"BTW, what does that motor in the latch area that drives after opening the deck with the key? Mine doesn't seem to do anything.
Mine as i live in the uk is uk spec car.I do not have a latch motor.
The key does nothing, the catch on mine is electricly operated from on the side foot kick panel switch.
If the battery becomes u/s the trunk lid can be opened manually by the cable pull located behind the grill on the door shut panel.
On moveing off i do hear what appears to be a short burst from what seems is the door mirror motor but cant be sure.
Any one know if it is that.

Winger,
What is the part number of the rubber piece in picture 2? It is the piece that slips over the metal foot on the right hand side of the picture. My car only has a metal piece.
Thanks

"What is the part number of the rubber piece in picture 2?"
Funny, I don't have either pieces of rubber in that picture, nor the other piece in the other picture! No wounder the thing is whacked.
