Hi All



Ok so now I have put my car back together after a month. I was so relieved after working so hard do the clutch right.



I took it off the stands and got in to feel the clutch peddle and found it near the floor! I could pull it up so that the spring sets it in the “up” position but it just pops back down to about 1.5” off the floor.



I really worked slow and steady to make sure that everything was right, the fork is engaged to the tabs on the throughout bearing and the slave cylinder rod is in the ball socket. Everything looked right when I buttoned it up.



The only thing I noticed is that I can feel some wiggle when I grab the ball end of the fork like the slave cylinder is not extending the way it should. Could the slave cylinder be pushed to far back into itself and stick there? Also I bled the slave cylinder and tryed to adjust the peddle but after that things were about the same.



Any thoughts?



BTW, I did a search on this subject and found some interesting points and one that referred to the wiggle at the ball end of the fork but didn’t see any resolution.

Bleeding the clutch can be a bit tricky.



The way I've been involved in doing it requires 2 people. One in the car and one filling and bleeding the hoses from below.



Fill the resevioir and the person in the car pumps a few times, then you crack the bleeder. Sometimes lifting the pedal with your foot is neccesary...Fill, pump, bleed should take about 20 minutes.



Don't let the fluid fall below the line in the resevior or you have to start all over again.

I was thinking I would try to bleed the clutch again. I think air may have been sucked into the master because the front end of the car was way in the air and the line to the reservoir is in the front, so when I pulled the slave cylinder off the car and saw the rod fully extend I inadvertently let the air in to the system. Funny I thought at the time that something was not right when the rod slid out

Definitely sounds like air in the line. It can be a real pain to get bled too.

Keep the reservoir quite full while bleeding the clutch (Motive is pretty handy for this) as the intake for the clutch hydraulics is kinda high up on the side of the reservoir.



Also, be patient. It's a little bleed screw and doesn't drain very fast. Disconnect negative cable at the battery to avoid finding hot starter wire and ground with that 7mm wrench.

I am planing on lifing the car on the right side so the intake from the reservoir is down. The new fluid I have is blue so I will know when I am getting all the old stuff out. That should do it unless there is something else wrong! I am getting a little tired of working on this car.

Sure it is. I sold the old 912E and got my Buddy's white and black cab in September. I have been bring it back from almost critical condition ever since. I don't like working on it but when it's running I take all the bad things I say. It is just fine touring roadster.

Still got Gumby?

Looks pretty though. Good to hear from you. I still have that 1700 motor you sold me. I am waiting for my son to get a VW so I can load that in to it.
