As i have both cars on the go,the manual cab had a flat battery caused by myself not turnning the switch off after putting the hood up.

Charged the battery up with no problems.



Same problem with the tiptronic except after charging and driving the car the airbag light will not go out.

Tried disconecting the battery to let the system go into default and reset its self but does not seem to work on this one.

Why is it ok on one car and not on the other.

Do i have to use the main dealer to have the thing reset.

I have read some of the most interesting posts and gotton completly confused.

What is a hammer?

Three choices:

1) Bosch hammer or other tool to rest the light

2) Piece of black tape to cover it up

3) Wire cutters to permanently disable it. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

The "Hammer" is a Bosch tool for reading OBD codes. It's called the hammer because it kinda looks like one. It plugs into a socket under the passenger side dashboard.



The airbag light is a safety (read hard) code, thus does not reset with turning the car off or disconnecting power. A shop with a Hammer can reset it quickly. You need to be sure that the issue is resolved or you'll be driving right back there to get it reset again.

Thanks for the replies, what can cause it to come on after a flat battery with both cars, with the fault only on one car?

Is there some capacitator or resiter that packs up giving a freak signal to the ECU, it is most odd.

The battery terminal was removed for charging!

As you say a repeated to trip to the dealer if the fault is not found and furter cost for a second time.

Also the dealer is not that close by.

Will the airbag work if the warning light is cut.

I've had this happen twice, both times when a someone didn't jiggle the key to shut the ignition off completely so drained the battery. Some mechanics have hammers and can reset it quickly and for a lot less $ than a dealer. My guy doesn't even charge for it. (probably because I pay him plenty for everything else!) You may have someone nearby that can do it for you. Porsche specialists will have a hammer, others may as well.

Same experience as you, Winger, with two cabs. Sometimes a dead battery gets me the dreaded light, other times it does not. Sure wish someone would get that nifty device designed and built so we can all avoid the dealers (who do not reset my light for free.)

Typically the Dreaded Airbag light is usually triggered by a voltage surge. I had it done to me when I needed a jump after leaving the lights on. The guy I got the jump from accidently crossed the jumper cables and hooked the positive to the negative for an instant and I needed to get it reset at the dealership. Cost me 50 bucks, down from the usual 100.00 for frequent flyer miles

It was not with mine as i removed the - battery terminal and charged the battery with a slow charger.

Reconnected the terminal and turned the key and the light came on.

Thought it would reset to default if the the terminal was removed for a period of time,but as Dave said it is a "read hard"????

There must be a easy way to cancel the thing but it has me beat.

I just pulled the airbag warning light and the central ! light.



I have to pay closer attention my panel since I don't have the ! in the middle. But I got sick of that damn airbag light staring at me all the time.

The A/B module is a separate box from the DME and has it's own firmware so disconnecting the battery isn't the cure.

I traced down the wire that powers the light and removed it from the A/B connector, [next to the A/B module].

Unfortunately, my schematics are at home and I'm not, so I'll try to post the wire color later.

Thanks,is it possible for a tool to be made that could just reset the air bag system.

This could be pluged into the socket and if possible go straight to the airbag menu.

With all the 968 air bag lights comming on through out the world, it is something in the system that must be failing, most do and some don't.

I would buy one if it could be simple! a good profit earner for someone maybe.

How much is this hammer and can it be bought from Porsche if all else fails.

the hammer is extremely expensive and hard to find (something like $1500)
