Successful Targa Rotorua Rally -
Renn68 - 06-12-2007
We successfully finished the Targa Rotorua Rally bringing the 968 home 22 overall, half a minute behind a Maserati Trofeo Cambriocorsa and 4 1/2 minutes ahead of the second GT3.
Theres some footage here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZUmNJcxmlU from a spectator - we're about 30 sec into the clip.
I'll rip some in-car this weekend and post

Beautiful car and one of the best if not the best sounding going by there. Interesting mix of vehicles- spanning 35-40 years of auto history.

What a great video. An amazing hodgepodge of neat cars going by.
What exhaust are you running? Sounds great!

Mongrel exhaust <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/biggrin.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> 2 1/2" with factory headers , no cat and a single can at the back with a loose baffle.
Such a cool event - 2 days 16 stages (nearly 200miles) on closed roads.
We're doing the main event in October which runs over 6 days, and they're expecting about 200 entries. Steve Millen will be back from the US with his GT40 and another US entry, a 997 Carrera S is having an RSR sequential tranny fitted so theirs heaps of variety

Nice. I like the camera man's ohhs and ahhs.
You should patent the "loose baffle" exhaust before Flash has it in development. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

fun looking stuff - very ecclectic mix - watching that Z go by made me want another one, reminding me of the turbo 240 i used to have a seat in (now THAT was a fast car)
ha ha erik - it does seem like i am constantly working on exhaust on this car though - hoping to wrap it up right after i get back from portland next week

that z is powered by a supercharged LS1 and was Alans first outing since the car was finished 3 weeks ago. He had a few issues with glazed brakes and couldn't pull it up which gave his wife who was navving a few anxious moments

fun toy - we did a small block car once - went like stink - handled like poop - didn't stop at all - should have gone with the donovan block

Great effort George. I did the support event (non timed, closed roads) in the car shown for first time, and had an absolute blast. the 968 is so deceptively quick, and have to thank you George for the input and coaching to date. Mark

Get out of the way! I gave that guy a hand signal thru my computer screen. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />
The countryside sure is beautiful there - even out the windshield of a small youtube video.

Dam, how fast are you going? That looks dangerous to me...no runoff, culverts and ditches. Is that in New Zealand?

Nice of him/her to finally let you through. Looks like a blast- I didn't know they had two lane roads down there. LOL

ha ha - we're penalised if we go over 200km/h (125mph) because we then exceed the FIA mandated max average stage speed of 132km/h.
Speeds in the clip were around 120-160km/h although we touched 190 on the longer straights.
Yes, New Zealand - theres quite a few things to hit if you get it wrong so best one doesn't. To date (touch wood) I've sustained more damage w2w racing than in 1500km of Targa.

Yes nice work there George. We had some good coverage over here on Foxtel. Typical bunch of Targa cars from many eras. Countryside looked like down in Queenstown way a bit. Very nice.
