You can get them here, www.rennbay.com They should be the same as the 944 gear..

AFAIK, they are not the same as the 944 gear...I got my gears for both 944 and 968 from http://www.odometergears.com Jeff is a super nice guy.

Brett is sending me one - thanks everyone for the help!

I'll also fix my dim dash lights at the same time. I've done this to two other 944 series cars before, now for my 968.

Question about the air bag removal - do i have to have a special tool to remove the air bag connector or will pulling the battery cable suffice?

odometer gear - anyone have one? - flash - 06-16-2007

i would pull any fuse for any item that might be drawing power witht he key off(interior lights, alarm, radio, clock, etc)

the dash can come out without removing the steering wheel, though it is easier if you remove it, so you don't absolutely have to mess with the airbag if you don't want to

Did it this morning. Followed Anchorman's recommendation about letting it sit for 45 mins after disconnecting the battery. All went well. I took the opportunity to fix my dim dash lights. My fix I developed way back is to scrape off the silver coating and put aluminum foil over it and tape it down. The little gear had one tooth broken.

Odometer and dash lights work fine! Treated it to a nice wash...all is good...

Hey Flash,

odometer gear - anyone have one? - Renalicious - 07-05-2007

Hmmm, maybe I should get on this as well. Mine is still working, but as flash would say "You're on borrowed time" <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Please help. Best guesses accepted.

I've a 1992 (produced 1991) 968 Coupe.

The 12 toothed drive gear in the odo seems to be an incorrect size as it doesn't make contact with the driven gears on either side.

As I've no original gear to match to I'm stuck with best guessing which gear will do the job. With the information and pictures I have, can anyone assist in identifying which gear I need for this job?

Rose passion appear to have a number of available gears, two or three of which could possibly be contenders.

Then Odometergears.com have another set of options..

Any help is appreciated. Ordering is more problematic as I'm in Taiwan, so at least shortening the list of possibilities is a great help.

Thanks all

I also have an early 92, first month of production in 1991. I purchased my odometer gears from Odometer Gears Ltd. In Newport News VA in May of 2015. My gears were the E15 15 tooth gear, and the 16 tooth small pod. They were 25 each with 6 shipping.

Their number is 757-593-3478

Hope this helps,

Matt

odometer gear - anyone have one? - danderson - 07-02-2018

I bought my gears from Odometer Gears and installed them. Everything went well and my odometer works well but my speedometer is now about 15mph slow if I am going 80 mph. I did not think the change of the odometer gear would affect the speedometer reading since the speedo is electric but I really do not know how they work and it could be quite possible one would influence the other. I did not count the number of teeth on the new gear compared to the old. I dropped the old and could not find it. Any thoughts?

speedometer indication has nothing to do with the gears . you could leave the gears out and it schould still work .

Maybe the old gear is stuck in there somewhere.

Just the smallest debris in the wrong place and it would be off .

Bad connection or the frequency multiplier is playing up
