okay, so I clipped the rearview mirror moving some stuff inside the car and go figure, it broke off.

The circular piece of adhesive is still attached to the windshield, and the stem of the mirror is just the metal.

What adhesive should I use to reattach it? I'm thinking I gotta use something that dries fast since I can't hold it there for days while it adheres. . .

Crazy glue?

hmm, that's easy. Thanks.

It sounds like the mirror mount is still attached to the mirror. You have to remove the round mount and then use the adhesive to reattach that to the windshield. Then the mirror slides over the round mount. When I've had to reattach the mirror mount, I've found the Permatex adhesive to work well.

I had to re-glue mine twice so far, used different manu each time . I gave up when it fell off a third time and just watch my sideviews more .

Like Flash said. CLEAN the mating surfaces first. I have like 7 packages of that rearview mirror adhesive. My dad used to autoglass along with commercial glass. When he stopped doing auto glass, we had a lot of left over supplies.

I can assure you that, whether or not you think what's behind you matters, here in NJ you wouldn't pass inspection without the mirror. As stated - clean the window and the mount really well (alcohol), apply the adhesive according to the instructions, apply the mount, and then wait at least 24 hours before putting the mirror on the mount - and make sure nothing is hot or cold.

Ether Joe. I tried the mirror adhesive kits from Walmart twice, did very careful preparation, and had the mirror fall off both times. I even tried heating the glass first at the recommendation of a friend. I don't know if the kits were old or just inferior to what auto glass people use. I finally took the vehicle to a glass place and had it installed for $5.00. It's still holding.

Tom

PS. I also scraped the glass with a single-edge razor blade.

Sometimes it is hard to see, but use a utility blade to completely scrape the mounting button clean!. There is usually adhesive from previous attempts on the button that alcohol won't touch. I had a mirror come off twice until I scraped it raw. It's been on for three years now with no repeat "clunk". (...and no, it did not fall off right after I made the last payment!

Ya know 968Z that may be my problem, I swear I scraped the button (may have had a little happy juice ) but will try again.

Anchorman, Here in Wisconsin (land of beer and cheese farts ) as long as your car/truck has both sideview mirrors you dont need a rearview.
