Recently I had a new clutch installed in my 968 and elected to go with the Fidanza aluminum flywheel instead of the OEM dual-mass unit. At the time of the repair, we also replaced the torque tube with a used unit sourced from a dismantler.

When I picked up the car, my mechanic mentioned a "minor noise/vibration" coming from the transmission area in the rear. Later that week, I drove the car in a 300 mile driving tour and drove the car pretty hard.

The car drove and shifted great but the noise from the rear of the car was very loud - a clanging type of noise at 2000-2500 RPM. The car did not have this issue prior to the new clutch/flywheel/torque tube.

Another issue arose later in that the car has trouble starting like the starter and flywheel are not connecting properly.

The car is back at my mechanic's place.

Just wanted to check to see if anyone has experienced a similar issue with their 968.

there is a rattle at that rpm, more on decel, that sounds a lot like a coffee can full of nuts and bolts, that is associated with the fidanza - it is in 100% of the cars i know about that have this flywheel, including mine - this is the nature of a lightweight single mass flywheel when connected to this transaxle - it happens with all of them, including the porsche motorsport unit

to date there is nothing you can do about it - i spent $6500 trying to track it down before i figured it out - however, i am close to a "solution"

it is also highly recommended that you balance the flywheel and pressure plate when using a single mass flywheel - failure to do that very frequently results in additional vibrations and noises, as well as potential damage to engine components

the starter could easily be that the front bushing is worn

Do a search on this site and you will find lots of posts on this subject. It sounds like you have the typical gear rattle.

Here is the thread with some recordings of the rattle cause by a light weight flywheel. In this case it was the RS Barn flywheel.
