WANTED - 968 cab -
flash - 11-08-2007
i'm shopping for a car for the father in law - he finally retired from the university, and is looking to have some fun - he is over 80, so i am not looking to land him in a car that is a problem child - i am prepared to go through the car to bring it up to snuff, but i am looking to start with a really good one
this MUST be a cab
this wants to be a 93-early 94 - NO 92s - (late 94 and 95 ok)
this MUST be a tiptronic
this really wants to be black with cashmere interior - no grey or black interior (deviating cahsmere/black ok) - we will consider blue cars, and possibly silver, but no other colors - again though, same interior color limitations
this MUST be a lower mileage car - nothing over 70k, regardless of maintenance records
this car must be immaculate - no body damage - good finish on the paint - immaculate carpet, dash and door panels
engine bay must be reasonably clean
no leaks allowed
everything must work - no missing major parts
seats are negotiable, but must be stock - top is negotiable - we are prepared to replace/repair those if there are ANY signs of wear
maintenance records will affect value
16s are ok - 17s are preferable - no 18s
most modifications are a BIG minus (airbox mod, rs barn chip, rs barn exhaust are ok)
aftermarket stereo is not a plus, but not a minus either, as it will likely be changed anyway
no B&B exhaust
no LED conversion
no non-airbag steering wheel
these are the concerns, not so much the price - will pay for the right car
i'm already watching ebay, autotrader, etc - looking for help outside that
thanks in advance

went to see malibu car today
what a disappointment - a real mess - needs a complete repaint - scratches, chips and dings on every panel - a pillar interior pieces shot - driver side carpet a mess - trunk full of water - trunk carpet a mess - top had forward section replaced, but they cheaped out and did not do the rear, resulting in a very obvious mismatch - passenger door latch almost non-functional - trunk key latch non functional - road rash on wheels - tires not great - seats shot - need i go on?
very misrepresented car
the good news is that even with all that, he still wants a 968, so the search continues
also now considering other colors but......
no greens - no yellow - no riv blue
same interior color limitations though - cashmere or cashmere/black deviating only - no black - no burgandy - no brown - no greys - not hip on blue either

unfortunately it is an all too common tale - for whatever reason, some people seem to feel that they need to mislead buyers - i don't know what they are thinking, because as soon as somebody sees the car in person, the true story becomes obvious
this car was more than a little messed up - the dealer was insisting on 16k or he said he was shipping it back to florida, that the buyer would give it to his nephew instead of selling if for less - i said "that's fine - should i call for the truck?" - it was only worth about 11k, as it was going to need at least 8k going through it, and another 3k parked in reserve - that's 22k, and bang on value for a super clean 69k car
sigh
as a result, just as when i was shopping for mine, i have to have dozens of close up shots taken of specific areas of potential cars, have a mechanic lift it up and take more shots, and then have somebody else look at out of area cars, before i even begin negotiations
the other annoying thing is that it really isn't about price for me - it's about the condition - i'm happy to pay full boat for the right car - frankly it would be easier than having to go through it - i figure i should be able to get a nice sub 50k tip cab for 25k - just need to sift through the lesser cars first to let the cream come to the top

will do as soon as i see it - the shots i have now aren't that great
teaser tidbits: late 94, EXTREMELY low mileage, always garaged and covered, 17" cup wheels, side mouldings
it will be at pete's shop for the next couple of weeks, getting belts, hoses, brake lines, and anything else original rubber that is in question - then another cross country trip for me to go get it - i am towing a car back there with me to him for a new top end, dropping it, picking up this one, and heading straight back before christmas
look ma - i'm an auto transport
