Burn rubber smell - nifi - 11-10-2007

Hello all (Help)

I have a problem with a burnt rubber smell from the rear of the car. (95 cab. tip. 113k ) Here is the scenario. I just moved and tailored the car approx. 1400 miles. I did not notice any problems be for we left. I did forget to take the back chain off and started to back off the trailer when I felt it.

The chain split the upper CV boot. Replaced it and still have a smell. Thought that It might be a brake hung up. Replaced pads, Checked E-brake (not stuck), Bled brakes also. Still have a burnt rubber smell after short drive.

I lifted car after drive can not find any thing that is hot. Brakes, rims, wheels, CV boots and shafts are also cool.

Any ideas?

Nifi,

Check to make sure nothing is touching the exhaust, or grease from the broken boot got on anything hot. Also make sure that the smell is originating from the rear and not being blown back. Also burnt rubber smell can come from a heavy right foot!

There s a bit of grease, but it is on the passenger side. I could not find anything on the exhaust. The smell is most prevalent after stoped.

I also have a coupe and the smell subsides after 2nd gear. He He
