I had brand new OEM rotors installed on the front with new Jurid pads a month ago. Last week I had to make an emergency stop to avoid rear ending another car. Since then I'm getting the same brake pedal vibration that caused me to change the rotors in the first place. I have to add that my ABS has been disconnected and the front tires did lock up for a second, no more. Is this common? The brakes work fine, but that annoying vibration has returned, albeit not nearly as violent a shudder as before.

Stew,

If the pads don't float free when installed in caliper they can hang resulting in a vibration/

We've also seen the rubber boot-seals on the caliper crack or go soft and not retract the piston resulting in vibration as well

Your rotors are likely not warped...

or you have a coarse/friction spot on a rotor....see if it fades away after a while

Thanks a lot guys. The pedal felt perfect before the incident, but got worse right after. I had professionals do the install, so I am not so sure about a faulty job but it is possible I suppose. I appreciate your feedback. I'll let you know if the issue disappears. Pete - do you do a tranny rebuild? Mine is moaning like a bad porno at 60mph + - I think it's the pinion bearing. Car has 160K w/ LSD. Let me know. Thanks again everyone.

Joe[/quote] What a great article. Sounds like I never properly bedded the brakes to begin with. Would a professional typically do this before releasing the car to me, or is that being presumptuous?

yup - happens all the time

most shops do not bed the pads, nor tell you that you need to - they will occasionally say - "take it easy for the first few stops", but that's about it - makes me crazy
