Well it is hard to price unique items.

This definatly is.

But why would someone pour-in $100k into a 944?

A brand new ZR1 is less than that.

Perhaps a $20k powerhaus motor?

I bet it bids to close to $30k.

For that price you would think they would fix the center console lid and throw in some floor mats to cover the torn carpet.

I noticed the console lid, as well as the fakey Porsche emblem above the glovebox (and on the hood???), the driver's side headlight doesn't close all the way, the "God Bless America" sticker on the hatchback glass, the use of white-out to indicate off and on (for???), the really dirty carpet in the back, covered by a grandma-made hook-and-latch macramé Porsche-rug...

but it *does* have a Saratoga top, so... <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

I'll wager the motor alone was twice that when all was said and done.

I know right...for 55k you think

are you kidding me - flash - 05-22-2008

yeah - lots of stuff unfinished

one has to wonder why somebody would sell such a car though - if it's "all that", why sell it?

we keep seeing turbos for sale - people dump a ton of money into them, takes years to do it, and then shortly afterward, sell them

don't they run? all i can think is that they didn't set the chassis up first, and the car turned out to be a mess, or they put too much power into it, and it's too spotty on driveability - i've had some really high power toys, but i wouldn't drive them every day - it takes a ton of money to set something up right, and i don't see anything really but engine on this one - pretty typical though - people tend to think power and not driveability

i wonder if they thought the project out before they began - i wonder if they got in over their head - i wonder if they got sold a bill of goods by the guys doing the work - i see all the time shops telling customers that "it'll be fine", and "we do this all the time" when selling a high power setup, and then, in the end, it makes the car a mess to drive

doesn't add up though

"...wonder if they got sold a bill of goods by the guys doing the work..."

Based on this statement in the listing: "Owner of Powerhaus.com is retiring & this is his personal Porsche", I don't think a "bill of goods" was involved. Maybe just the typical "getting it finished" slowdown - the first 90% of the work takes 10% of the time, the last 10% takes 90% (because the last 10% never gets done).

are you kidding me - flash - 05-22-2008

lol- been there done that for sure

i didn't read that it was the owner's car - missed that - but, it raises the question again of "why sell it?" - did the guy just buy it? if not, why did the owner sell it in the first place? what did it sell for?...........

i still have a hard time imagining selling a car like that if it worked - yes, i've sold a lot of cars, but i had them for a long time first, and only sold them because i was moving a long way away to a place where i could not store 12 cars and 4 motorcycles, so i chose to clean house - major life change involved

as an example, with as much time and money as i have into the 968, i can't see myself selling it at any time - well..... if somebody offered me $75k i might - but then i would just go out and build another one

clearly i need therapy
