Yup, idiotic design; have to take the inside fender panel off to replace the sensor. How "Porsche" is that ?! - a $ 20 part, requires eight hours of labor to replace it.

20 mins to remove the passenger side fender liner. Should be fairly straight forward.

I recently attempted to clean the tank out and it's such a bazar design, I ended up just flushing it. out. In all, the service was about an hour.
Be sure to lube the o-ring prior to replacing the filler neck - it'll leak otherwise.
While the fender well is out, you can also inspect the p/s cooling and oil cooling lines.

I've done it. I let the washer fluid level drop to the point where the red warning light was triggered. Off course, It wouldn't go out again when the reservoir was filled up.
I'm guessing the sensor got stuck or something. Can't find any detailed info on the matter.
So I've removed the fender liner and hoped to find me a sensor in plain sight, but no luck.
I am clearly missing something because all I see is the pump. Is the sensor located inside the pump or??
I don't want to fiddle around too much without knowing what's what because I really don't want to cause more harm than good. And harm is just around the corner. It has been too long without :ninja:.
Who can help me out?

I would disconnect the battery and see what happens. I know on mine it takes a while for the light to go out even after the oil level has gone up.

Lol, you put oil in there?

Of course! It keeps the pump lubricated and it helps to keep snow from sticking to the windshield in winter.

The float for the sensor is in the pump that's why there are 3 wires in the connector
Don't break the neck for the washer hose off a new pump is $200

Ok got it fixed. Thanks for the responses. Disconnecting the battery didn't do the trick. I had to remove the tank to get to the pump. I then cleaned the contacts and connector on the pump and no more warning light now. The contacts looked very clean, no corrosion at all. Maybe fiddling with the pump made the float get unstuck, who nows?
Here's a little write-up as to how to remove the washer fluid tank:
- remove front right wheel
- remove fender liner
- get all fluid out of the tank. It can hold about 6L (1.6 US gallon), you want it out of there. (WTF, 6L???)
- the filler neck is held by 2 little screws - remove those
- close to were the filler neck is attached to the tank, the is a 10mm hex holding the tank in place - remove it
- in the wheel well, there should be 2 tiewraps holding wire and a washer fluid line, loosen these up. Do not cut them, if OEM they can be retightened!
- the tank is fixed by one more 10mm nut inside the wheel well, you can't miss it
- now that the tank is loose, it should be easy to wiggle the filler neck off of it
- now the tank should slide right out of there
- the wires and lines are kept in place by plastic strips on the tank. Do not cut!! You can pop them loose on one end with a small screwdriver
- remove the connector from the pump and inspect the contacts - spray some contact cleaner on and in there
- gently remove the pump, it just slides into a rubber grommet
- make sure both the grommet and rubber o-ring where the filler neck goes are in good shape - if the rubber is hard, replace
- check if the warning light goes out, and/or functionality of the pump by submerging it in washer fluid. Make sure the connector stays dry, so not tóó deep.
- if all is well, you can put everything back together in reverse order. Do not forget to check for leaks before putting the fender liner back in!
- There is a ground near by, it is attached to the ABS-pump. It would be wise to clean it.
Quite an ordeal to get rid of a warning light.
And seriously? 6L of washer fluid?

Yes, many thanks to Philippe for this write up.
I imagine the 6 liters of wiper fluid was selected and positioned to compensate for that big weight in the trunk, and to offset the weight of the driver in case there was no passenger adding to the right side weight of the car.

LOL
I was under there upgrading the brake bias valve last year (yet another PITA job, BTW), and it looked like it would be a bear to get that tank out.
But didnt look anything like 6 LITERS! Holy cow! Thats funny, especially in light of diesel gate where they were afraid to make the urea tank any bigger
It must go back into the fender a ways
Have to check that out again when I bring the car out of storage, but its snowing today
Yuk

AZ - let's pretend you didn't say that shall we ,lol.
MCL - perhaps it was used to smuggle moonshine? What was the year of production of these cars again?
MLB - I totally forgot about that valve, I want to change it too. Are you happy with the change? Can you feel the difference for starters?
