ok - so i have been having the oddest electrical issue - this one has been puzzling me for a while now - voltage output has been low but consistent at 11.8 - 12.2 volts

i have new cables - the main is 4200 strand 0 guage - gold terminals - all the bells and whistles

i have a second new optima 3478 battery, replacing what i thought was a faulty one (it was fine)

i have tried 3 regulators, including a new adjustable one

no luck

keep in mind that this alternator has never been out of the car - the wiring there has never been touched - this is completely factory

so, i figure dead alternator, right?

i go to check the output voltage of the alternator just to be sure, before i yank it out and order a new one, and WHAAAAAAT? a loose nut on the alternator terminal? - i tighten it up and BINGO!!!

moral of the story, assume nothing - check everything - if your juice is a bit low, check your nuts

Ya know, that title is just begging for an immature crude joke right?

So THAT'S what those rappers meant by "grabbing their nuts." Obviously the drive Porsches.

their assistants drive Porsches <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/tongue.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> the rappers themselves aparently shy away from being seen in anything that costs less than half mil. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/dry.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

ok, may be a few modified Porsches.. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/wink.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

funny thread headline Bob <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/laugh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> but I'll be sure to check how loose my nuts might be, since the voltage has been at that same relatively low level for several years now..

WARNING! disconnect battery before attempting to tighten - wrench contact with metal is BAD

if you're down on juice, check your nuts - rhudeboye - 07-14-2008

I think we all need to check our nuts from time to time to be sure there getting the proper support. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

additional warning....disconnect the negative terminal, if you remove the positive terminal, make sure your wrench does not touch

the metal (black) cover piece extending from the windshield.. don't ask how I know

Good point. I have hit that strip below the windshield myself. I put duct-tape on it now for those slip contact moments.

Yep, been there, done that. I put black electrical tape across that strip below the window.
