Paint Shop - rxter - 09-29-2008

Time to respray the front end, maybe the whole car. Also need some dings worked out. Any recommendations for body/paint shops in SoCal?

i like the job they did on mine, but they moved and i haven't spoken to them since



the shop that did the work on the denali and the other bmw did a good job too, but they are an insurance shop, and depending on how anal you want to be, it may or may not be the right place



dings are easy - i have a good guy for that

I'm pretty fussy about the paint and panels. Some of the insurance places I have used don't take walk-ins though.

European Auto Body: http://www.eabweb.com. These folks had my car before I took it back for self repair. Their shop was loaded with high end cars, Mercedes, Porsches, BMW, etc. Even saw a Ferrari F40 (or F50) there with the aluminum body work all torn up from an accident, the owner had a pristine 911 Turbo. No direct experience with their work, but seemed like real pros.



Stroyer Brothers: http://stroyerbrothers.com/: No experience, but heard good things about them.



There is a place about 1 block off of Miramar road, had my 911 repaired there, but sorry can't recall the name, gave all my records to the buyer. Again, they do all the high end cars and exotic cars from La Jolla. I think Pioneer Porsche sends their body work to this place, so maybe call this dealer and ask them.

yeah - that's because they don't want to get stuck "nitpicking" on their dime - they would rather rape the insurance company for rework - i won't use those shops - if they aren't willing to do it right the first time, or fix it on their dime, then i don't want to get involved



the one insurance shop i have had success with had to redo a door twice to get it right - no complaints from them though, which said a lot to me - they wanted it right too

I put a call into a shop that did some collision work (wasn't my fault, the pole literally jumped into my car) in San Marcos. They did a decent job on the Mazda. They don't do Porsches because 'lots of things break when you take them apart'. They put me onto this guy

A lot depends on how much this will cost. With my house value in the toilet and my stocks down >20% in 8 months I am thinking about digging a hole in the back yard and hiding for a while. We'll see.

Catching up a bit. $8K for a full respray, and $3K for the front end (bumber, hood, fenders). He would not take pieces or do a tape and spray job. All panels off. Way too expensive for my taste, so I went with Dr. Colorchip. $80 worth of paint and its OK - not great, but I can keep my kid in college for another year...
