Knock sensor - Sedge - 12-03-2008

My "Check Engine" light came on in conjuction with a slightly rough idle. The code read (done by my local independent shop) says it's a bad knock sensor. They replaced with a good used sensor and the warning light went off. But, when the car is restarted, the light comes back on. It seems as if something is re-setting when the engine is shut down and re-started. Does anyone have an idea of what's going on here. I forgot to ask him if the rough idle is still present, although it is not very noticeable.

Ask the mechanic which knock sensor. There are 2 of them, one right behind the other on the engine top under the intake runners. Also check the connectors as they tend to get corroded over time.

Replaced with a used good sensor????? warning ?????

Try Sunset Porsche for 10% over cost Porsche parts. The labor and inconvenience will soon outweigh the cost of a new part. My last sensor cost $66.96

Thanks silvy...I've picked the car up, it's running fine, but the @#%&* CHECK ENGINE light is still on. It was the #2 (rear) sensor, and they said the one that came out showed no resistance, but the one that went in tested OK. Contacts at the sensor cleaned, but who knows about others in the circut. I will continue to try and figure this one out, but will probably end up buying a new sensor at some point. Car is running great.

Disconnect the battery for a few hours to try and clear the ECU.

Isn't there a way to put the igniton key into the run position (without starting the car) and then just hold the gas pedal to the floor for 30-40 seconds to clear the ecu??



I got tired of the warning light so I bought the Durametric setup.

News to me. The blink test will reveal the fault, but I believe that the only way to dump the faults is to clear with the "hammer" or disconnect the battery.

correct - some codes will clear with the battery disconnected - some will not, and require external intervention



holding the pedal as indicated above does not clear codes, but rather engages the reading process
