I thought I knew a lot about this tangled web of who owns what. Then I came across this. Not sure how current it is though.

sweet!

Agreed - thanks, interesting find. Next to the Porsche insignia, what's the meaning of "51% in the future"?

Car company family tree - Duckman - 01-06-2009

Apparently, the chart was drawn at a time when Porsche owned only 31% of VW but had a stated intent to increase ownership to 51%. They have done so and now own 51% or more.

So it's time to yank that VW symbol out of the middle and put Porsche in it's place! <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/smile.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

You may have noted that Toyota hybrid technology ties into porsche and Mini. Does anyone know if that fact is up to date?

Very interesting to see how interconnected the automobile industry is.

I think the chart is a little inaccurate though.

From reading Christophorus, my understanding is that Porsche Automobil Holding SE, which is the holding company of Porsche AG, is the majority shareholder of Volkswagen AG. So Porsche does not own Volkswagen in the same sense that say Ford owns Volvo.

It would be similar to the FIAT Group, which has FIAT as one of its brands.

Also interesting so see a relatively small company like Honda is still independent.

Car company family tree - flash - 01-07-2009

honda is HUGE - the car division may not be by comparison to others, but their holdings are nutty - same with mitsubishi, which oddly looks like it is owned by daimler - i thought it was independent - fortunately i have an inside on that one, so i'll check

One day it will all be one super company.

Car company family tree - DaveN - 01-07-2009

And they will call it GM <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Here is a better link to the tree.
