OK, games over and I'm a little sad.
But now I cross fingers for the Dutch team.

incredible. They beat Australia 4-0, England 4-1, Argentina 4-0...and cant score a single goal against Spain. This is the worst they have played in the entire tournament. Without Muller, they looked weak. Klose & Podolski did nothing.
Spain has been beating all their opponents 1-0. This almost looks staged. Both times, against Germany & Portugal it seemed as though the players werent really sad after losing.
This is the 3rd World Cup in a row the Germans flop in the final 4. So upsetting.
If Spain beats the netherlands 1-0, i think i'm going to pull hair out of my head.

For me, the worst game was against (weak) Serbia.
The game against Spain was not that bad, but Spainards were better.
Anyhow, the both contestants for the finals are looking for their first title and maybe both deserve it.

I see it slightly differently - I think Spain ran a clinic, completely dominated the field strategically, technically and outclassed Germany in every respect.. I fully expected they would have overwhelming possession of the ball, but did not think it would be this lobsided. The published stats are misleading btw, the majority of Germany's almost even possession time was in their half of the field defending.. Spain simply not allow Germany to play their game.. not even their formidable counter attack worked today. They were shut down. I do agree on their inability to put balls in the net and always sqeaking by with one goal.. this should have been a 4-1 result ( the 1 for Germany , had there been anyone else in that goal but Casillas ). Sorry, but the better team won... and deservantly so. Germany has been brilliant in all other matches and should be proud of a young team which has more talent than I've seen in decades. The coaching is outstanding as well.
Holland poses a great scoring threat, but IMO their defense is not nearly as solid as Germany's, so Spain can only beat themselves in this final . Either way, I'm happy because one of two teams which never won the cup have a chance at it. I'm always rooting for the underdog - sick and tired of seeing the same three names : Brasil, Italy and Germany holding the trophy

ds968, totally agree with you. Apart from the last statement, of course.

Understandable
And ok, I did lie a bit, because I did not ALWAYS root for the underdog - during the S.F. 49ers "dynasty" I was front and center of the fan club But that was looong time ago, as I get older I tend to side with those who want to see the "upset" happen in sports.

Spain is over rated IMHO. They are a great team, but they have not showed us that in this World Cup, losing their opener to the Swiss, and barly getting by in every game since. They are not deserving of the title imo.....not because they are a bad team, but because they are not playing the game the way they can and should be, the way they did in Euro 2008. Germany also played a lousy game today. Had their young star Muller been involved, the outcome may have been different...but that is doubtfull as well, considering the rest of the team looked clueless and off their game.
Hopefully the next two games will be fun to watch. But the 3rd place match is seldom fun, and with Spain playing in the final...i have a feeling that will also being a boring match. What has saved Spain and kept them in so long is their tremendous defense. Their offense has done little....and if they win this world cup, they will go down as the team who won the World Cup with the fewest Goals.

Can't argue with that ( most of it ). Then again, Brasil was also over rated - player for player they had a GREAT team, hell they have better players sitting on that bench who are better than half of the world cup countries' starting lineup. They did not go through as far as people expected either.. self-destruct ?
However, I do hope Spain and Holland, as well as Germany and Uruguay regardless of the latter being a consolation match, surprise everyone and play their hearts out . If for no other reason but to demonstrate to the world why they deserve to be in the last "best" four teams !!
Asking too much, perhaps ?

I was rooting for Germany, but I like Spain.
They play well enough to win, and that's what counts.
Euro 2004 Greece surprised everyone and won. It wasn't
pretty, but they played well enough to win.
It's going to be nice to see a 1st time winner, Spain or Holland.

" Euro 2004 Greece surprised everyone and won. It wasn't pretty, but they played well enough to win. "
OT a bit, but this reminded me of the London ( and Vegas ) betting odds given on Greece at the begining of that tourament :
they were b/w 275:1 to 300:1 !!
Man, to think of the money made ( and lost ) on those bets in 04.. They should have used the psychic octopus to predict the outcome. Damn octopus is now 6 out of the last 6 ( correct predictions ) in this world cup - ok how is that friggin' possible ?!
Wonder what happens if they give him either a glass of rioja or a heineken before he makes his final choice ?

Paul the octopus is da man, or should I say is da octopus!
I wonder if they will have him predict the final winner, and I wonder if Paul has received any death threats?!!!!
Wanted Germany to win (have worked for German companies for the last 12 years). Oh well.
I hope Holland has a great match and wins the cup!

I went to see the Spain x Germany game in a local movie theatre that has been showing World Cup games live (and for "free"!). There was a good crowd on hand and I would guess that 80% were rooting for Germany, based on all the German shirts that were in the crowd. But...
I was impressed with the ball control that Spain showed in that game, and if they play like that against Holland, it will be a very good game.
I will be rooting for Holland in the final.
I do find it rather ironic that the Dutch national anthem has something in it about "defeating the Spanish 'silver float' (ship fleet)". This reference to past history will probably cause extra zeal on behalf of the Dutch players. I anticipate that the national anthem will be sung with extra fervor before the game starts!
It would have been really interesting had Argentina made it to the final against Holland, since the crown prince's wife is from Argentina! She looked like she was enjoying herself in the game against Uruguay. That is probably because the is no love between those two countries when it comes to soccer.
Maybe Johann (or another Dutch 968'er) can explain to us the reason behind the ORANGE colour of the Dutch uniform.

Fox944 - 07-08-2010
Orange is the national color of the Netherlands. Originates from the coat of arms of the Dutch founding father "William of Orange-Nassau"

I;m voting for for the most consistent, reliable, versatile, player of the World Cup: some guy named Hublot . Seems he always subs in with 2 or 3 minutes to go in extra time, and has managed to play for every single team in this tournament ! Golden boot award for Hublot ! :-) WATCH out for him from now on.. his Time has come :-)

Who wants to bet $200 Klose will score 2 goals against Uruguay and become the World Cups top Scorer with 16 goals?

Bummer is ESPN Soccernet is reporting that Klose will most probably not be able to play.

That would be a pity, to say the least !
