Yeah, self-driving technology clearly has a ways to go. And the legal/ethical challenges (how to assess liability when the car chose to hit the homeless guy instead of the woman pushing a baby stroller) and just as daunting as the technical ones. I find the "semi-self driving" feature available in many new cars to be absurd beyond description - what sense doe it make to be able to take your hands off the wheel, but still have to focus on the road?

Could the self driving feature be an allure for big city folks who drive in traffic? Counterintuitive but appealing.

( At least in the Sonoma , CA region from where this procured, they changed the feeding methods to much more humane ways .. )
.
And of course the ducks concur :whine: ..... no wrath, we all fight our own corner
Self drive cars ... watching TV now permitted by the driver. That's a lot of confidence by the manufacturers (or a lot of insurance)

OH MY GOD! Don't even get me started on this lunacy!
What a stupid idea to let the car drive down the highway at 65 mph while you play checkers! Holy Crap what were they thinking????!!!???
My silverado constantly tells me to service the back up camera, the trailer wiring and the rear proximity sensors and never throws a code that a reader can find.
The infotainment system is a joke - the stereo cuts out for up to a minute at random intervals - the backup camera screen goes blue with lines at random times when in reverse, the large screen gets mis-matched to the small screen in the dash and the entire system for the audio won't / can't remember what song or audio source I was last using when I shut the truck off, and just doesn't work at all other times - and they want me to trust a self driving mode that follows the lines in the road????!!!
NO THANK YOU!
What happens when you have a idiot on the paint crew who can't paint the lines properly? I will not be the coyote who runs into a tunnel painted on the wall.
So did you all catch Bozo Joe's newest - We won't let anyone drill here, or open the pipelines, but we will add more ethanol to the fuel now so it will seem like it's cheaper. Better start stocking up on Stable and injector/carb cleaner now!
They better stop paying the farmers to grow corn to put in the fuel, and start paying them to grow wheat because Ukraine isn't going to be producing what they used to and it's going to get pricey very fast...
Yup...

100% agree on the ethanol - not a good automotive fuel, and not environmentally friendly. But I thought Biden has back-tracked on the domestic drilling.
Regarding self-driving cars, I don't agree. It will take a long time for sure, but like any other technological challenge, the problems will eventually be solved. It would be insane for automakers to release fully-autonomous vehicles before they're 100% foolproof, given the liability risk. I suspect that a hundred years from now, people will be saying, "Can you believe they used to let people actually drive their own cars on the street, resulting in the grisly deaths and maiming of hundreds of thousands of innocent people worldwide?! How barbaric!"

Well, it will at least eliminate the DUI violations. The MADD consortium will be out of work. And the opposition consortium DDAMM ( drunk drivers against mad mothers

) will as well.

"100% agree on the ethanol - not a good automotive fuel"
Well, I agree with you that ethanol isn't a good fuel for the street (hydroscopic, corrosive, etc.)...but add high compression and some boost & then it's awesome.

Doesn’t higher ethanol burn faster?

You can't even drink it. Worthless...
On another note, I had new coil-overs put on the rear of the 968 today and it lifted it's fanny quite nicely. I had planned on new struts too, but Sunset didn't sell me new springs and top hardware, so after waiting weeks for this stuff to come from Germany and weeks to get into my mechanics schedule, I have to get a hold of sunset and get the rest of the hardware ordered.
Have you noticed they took their phone number off the website? It's almost like they don't want to sell parts anymore...You have to email them. You would think they would be happy selling two grand worth of parts. It takes me a month in my antique store to sell two grand worth of items, and I spent that in 10 minutes on the phone with them.

Ok, the world is legitimately doomed !! Harley Davison is now making electric motorcycles. I just saw a video clip of one, sounds like a sewing machine ( just as most e-cars do ) but this is so pathetic given HD’s heritage and the rumble they’re known for, it’s beyond sad … I , for one , never liked how loud they were , but that was their mark ..going silent is bizarre ..absurd . IMO
Electric cars -
Cloud9...68 - 05-20-2022
Yeah, I would have thought Harley-Davidson would be about the last vehicle manufacturer on the planet to go electric. Not sure how this will play with their base, as is so popular to say these days...

They have also shut down production because of supply chain issues. Can you imagine a big thuggish heavily tatted man riding an ev bike. He would then have to smoke long thin cigarettes and drink light beer. He wouldn’t stop for brewski’s but rather afternoon tea and crumpets. No more spitting and cursing. The woman on the back seat would be a prim and proper school marmish prude who is offended by everything.

I have an o4 fatboy with just under 15k on it. I can't get anyone to offer me more than 4K for it.
The funny part is I could have bought literally any bike I wanted and bought the Harley with resale value in mind.
Jokes on me.
I get burned on every vehicle deal I make

So in addition to the major coal utilization issue, there’s also this aspect which has not received as much publicity , in spite of a major lawsuit filed against Tesla :
Sixty-eight percent of the world’s cobalt, a significant part of a EV battery, comes from the Congo. These mines do not have any pollution controls and widely employ children, some as young as 6 . It is estimated that nearly 70% of the world’s cobalt is produced in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Foreign-owned firms, primarily Chinese, account for about
60% of global cobalt demand to be used in the rechargeable battery industry to be used in cars . Cobalt mining does come with environmental complications that may outweigh its use in rechargeable electronics. The nonpartisan research group Wilson Center
reports that quick cobalt extraction contributes to global warming, while mining operations generate “incredibly high carbon dioxide and nitrogen dioxide emissions,” both of which can
contribute to the greenhouse effect.
<p style="color:rgb(10,10,10);font-family:'IBM Plex Sans', sans-serif;font-size:18px;">Human rights groups have documented “severe human rights issues” in mining operations, according to the
Council on Foreign Relations. It is
estimated that of the 255,000 Congolese mining for cobalt, 40,000 are children.

What we need is an electric car powered by a windmill attached to the roof. The faster you go, the faster the windmill spins, creating more power to make the car go faster which in turn makes the windmill spin faster which makes even more power. Sort of the same technology as installing an electric fan on the deck of a sailboat pointing at the sails.
hehehehe
