Max torque at about 4500 rpm, and max power below 6K - very nice! I know this is intended primarily as a street mod, but this kind of improvement in this rpm range will do wonders pulling for the car out of corners at the track as well. Can't wait to be able to do this (maybe in round two; depends on the continued success of my wife's fledgling business...)

yeah - pete and i have already talked about the new chip, and i am already making the other changes too
there are a number of things that set this kit apart from all the rest - when we are all done with the tuning, and i am happy with everything, i'll let everybody in on the secrets - some of the stuff is very different than anything you have likely seen, specific to this kit, designed especially for this kit

Please do not jump down my throat and do not lump me into the group of those just interested in peak numbers and the like. Go back and take a look at my post:
Perhaps I didn't word it well, but what I find interesting about the chart you posted is the fact that you made peak TQ at about half maximum boost. Seems to me there is significantly more to be had since you're not seeing the full effect of the boost. So I would be interested in knowing if it would be possible to hit maximum boost earlier, maintain it and extend the torque band and/or increase the area under the curve.
At the end of the day, I really don't give a rat's ass what the system does, because I am not a customer. I have applauded your efforts just about every time I have commented in this thread so pardon the F out of me for asking some questions. Quite frankly, you should expect a fair amount of questions of all types when you create such a product and expect deposits (refundable or not) without final results.
Continued good luck, as always.

i had typed up a very long response, but thought better of it and am now going to exit this thread
this just stopped being fun
there will be no further discussion of this kit from me until i am done - no more updates - no more information
i will sleep on this over the weekend and decide if i am going to continue, or if i am just going to have pete refund everyone's deposits

Gosh! I would hate to see some "ney sayers" get their way. I for one, have followed this thread everyday since you started it. While I have not had my finger on the design, engineering, or production - you have made me, and I'm sure most others - feel like we were right in the middle of the project w/ you. I put my deposit down the minute you said it was ok to do so. You have single - handedly renewed my passion for this car through your dedication - even more than the day I bought it.
Anyway, just my 2 cents.

I also made my deposit as soon as it was possible. You've done a hell of a job, and exactly what you said you were going to do. May I suggest you stop trying to explain that any more, your integrity is intact, and I feel I may speak for the many when I say how appreciative we are of your efforts, as we would not have this opportunity without you and Pete.
Thank You.

Ditto.
I would have sold my cab long ago (when I was in a bit of hardship) were it not for you and your efforts.
Nobody else does it for us, but you and Pete.

Ah, come on now Flash. Just get out your elephant suit with the thick skin and put it on for the duration of the development and testing. You have to take a bit of responsibility here because;
1. the details that you have offered during development have been significant. Most such kits would just suddenly "be for sale" with no ongoing involvement of everyone who might be a customer during development. You gotta expect some of this.
2. you always have the answers - if you didn't then nobody would ask.
3. and you ask tough questions of others too.
These are just harmless questions - you have clearly indicated what your objectives have been from the beginning and it would seem that you have delivered in spades. And as you said, you really did it more for you anyway. Its just a bonus for the rest. Just keep in mind that some guys, like me, would just buy it because it works (but can't because I have two 1992's one with a crappy wiring harness that I would be fearful to wiggle) but other folks are gear heads like you and want every scrap of data and want to play armchair quarterback.
It's like Keith's beer up here - Those like it will almost certainly like it a lot. Those who don't because it doesn't do what they want can just build their own. Based on all the posts I am assuming that it's really rather easy to do . Those like me will just have to buy a good bib to catch the drool. Or take the Cayman S out for a spin.
So don't stop the info from coming - maybe just stop responding to questions that have already been answered. But certainly don't stop production - I think that it will sell, perhaps only in limited numbers, but all who buy it will think that it is fabulous. And the rest can wish or do something else.

Whoa.. Bob, go pour yourself a glass of wine and come back to your old self, man ; it's not like you to take things personally, so just note the wise advice that Pauli and Sho and Phil and Kim posted , and respond only to the info which has relevance to the exact scope and objectives you set out for this kit , not what it could do or what it doesn't, or why it won't, etc..

It would be sad if you stopped posting on your progress, I have been a dedicated reader. You have poured your hart and soul into this project and it is more than understandable that you are sensitive about your vision for your car, I would have felt the same way.
But...
Like Dan said, you are not usually one to take things personally. So chin up, take a deep breath and keep on keeping on.

There is lots of backround stuff going on and lots of information not provided during testing period.
Bob and I wanted to post some information, otherwise there may have been some who thought there was a problem or whatever.

mrmister - 03-13-2010
I really want to get this kit. Unfortunatly it looks like it will take more work for me. I have a 1992 and I am currently running a stage 2 RSBarn setup. I am willing to refresh my head, replace the rods, pop in a LSD and then supercharge away. I am not willing to take off the headers that I just bought last year. Of all the things I just mentioned, taking off the headers is the easiest, but it is more principle than anything. Unless there is some sort of performance loss with the combination of these headers and the SC I would expect to see a chip for the combo at some point. I would think that us guys who are in the "12 stage program"(on the wagon or off the wagon?) at RSB would be more likely to buy this kit than others and would feel the same way about pulling their headers.
I am tempted to buy anyways and sit on it till there is a solution, or try it with headers and see what happens.
Anyway, awesome work. Looks clean and I can't wait to hear what the peak HP is at the flywheel (just kidding). Don't let anyone get you down.
I would like to have a discussion on rod replacement and what else should be done while in there. Should we have that discussion in another thread?

Cloud9...68 - 03-14-2010
mrmister,
I'm in the same boat as you as far as the need to pull not only the head, but replacing the rods as well (though I'm not in a position to invest in the SC as soon as you appear to be), and have many of the same questions as you. But I have a question for you - are you planning to do the job, which for us '92 owners amounts to a complete engine rebuild, yourself, or are you going to take it to a mechanic? Thanks.
Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! -
mrmister - 03-14-2010
I am not sure it is a job I can do myself. I helped with my front end rebuild last year, and have done shocks and some brake stuff before....but nothing major. Most likely would end up going to a mechanic. Wish I knew more about engines to know what was involved and if I could do it.

Flash, just a word of support from the other side of the planet...I really appreciate your posts on this, and tend to skip the rot. 968's are too much fun to get bogged down in all that stuff, and your knowledge is a pleasure to be able to learn from. Thanks.

flash - 03-15-2010
ok-
i've had the weekend to think about this, and reevaluate my goals and desires regarding the kit - i've come to some decisions
for the record, i have no issue with constructive criticism, nor do i have any issue with anybody asking logical questions - my only issue was with somebody doing exactly what i asked not to happen, as it was both extremely premature, and without the understanding of how a centrifugal unit works and makes boost very differently than a turbo or roots system
i realize that not everybody has the level of understanding of these units or what such a system can and cannot do - i also realize that i need to help those people - i am not faulting anybody for wanting to know more - i just don't feel able to give a class on centrifugal units right now
many of you have made some very nice comments and overtures, here, in emails, and in phone calls, and i truly appreciate them - it went a long way toward me being able to sift through my feelings, and come to what i think will be a good solution
i concluded that it would not be fair for me to penalize those who have taken the leap of faith, and those who support me and the project in spite of minimal information to date, and cancel the project because of some simple armchair quarterbacking
to that point, here is what is going to happen:
i am going to finish the kit
i will not be discussing the kit further here on the website, at LEAST until i complete it - i will not be publishing more information, nor will i be answering questions - basically i'm steering clear of all of that until i am done
when i am done, i will publish a full press release of sorts, complete with pictures and charts, as well as a sort of tutorial or something, which will explain how this kind of system differs from a roots system or turbo, and how it makes boost very differently, and hopefully head off some of the uninformed criticism, however well intentioned
this press release will not be published here - it will be on the RS Barn site - any questions will be directed to RS Barn via their email or phone
i will be making one batch of parts, the quantity of which will be determined by how many people have put down deposits by the end of this week - we have 5 people who have already put down their deposits, or will have by the end of the day - i do not know if there will be a second batch or not - it depends on a lot of factors, not the least of which is enough people lining up, as these are made to order, and it takes 10 to do a run - it will also depend on how good i feel about it - quite frankly i don't feel the need to be beaten over the head and shoulders for my efforts i extend on behalf of others - i am perfectly fine with stopping at any time
we will not be bringing kits to hershey - they will not be carried in stock - these will be made to order only
sorry guys, but that's the way it's going to be - i just can't get into the kinds of discussions i went through with the chips, which is exactly how i felt the other day - i hope everybody understands, but i need to maintain a distance from that - it really sucked all the fun out of what has been a great project, and i want to regain my attitude about it - this is supposed to be fun for me

Ya know I ended up reading through all the posts again - I determined if anything, that Flash's only fault was that he was too accommodating - it would have been much easier for him to just say (Refer to post one) or RTPO for short. I mean how much clearer could he have made himself. Everything he intended to do is in post #1.
1. Concept
2. What it will contain
3. What it will do
4. What it won't do
5. Things to know
6. When/where/ and how much
That pretty much sums it up, and he has deliverd - I am happy to see him trudge ahead however, but I can absolutely see his frustration - I have been there, and all you can say is " You gotta be %#@!&^%* kidding me!" I mentioned in a previous post that I have had my car for 7 years, and have only put 420 miles on it - when I get his supercharger installed, I'm thinking I will double miles the first weekend - I can't wait!

I just talked to Pete and put down my deposit. Also made arrangements for him to do an engine rebuild, install an LSD, and install the supercharger. The car will be at Hershey.
