Hamilton stripped of third place finish in the season opener for lying to stewards.
Trulli gets his hard earned third place reinstated.....

<!--quoteo-->QUOTE <!--quotec-->While disappointed that Lewis Hamilton did not fully explain the situation in Australia that saw him overtaking the world champion during a safety car period, Jarno Trulli is just happy to be vindicated and to have his third place back.

The Toyota driver was demoted from third to 12th last weekend after being handed a 25-second penalty for passing Hamilton on the 57th lap during the second safety car period after an accident involving Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull and the BMW Sauber of Robert Kubica.

Toyota decided not to appeal the matter but Hamilton and Trulli were hauled before the stewards again yesterday after evidence of a radio conversation between Hamilton and his pit wall suggested that McLaren had told him to allow Trulli to reclaim his third place.

While Trulli's third place was reinstated, Hamilton and McLaren were excluded from race classification for acting "in a manner prejudicial to the conduct of the event by providing evidence deliberately misleading to the Stewards".

When asked whether he was disappointed that Hamilton had failed to fully explain the situation at the initial hearing last weekend, Trulli responded: "Yeah, but this is more up to him and not down to me.

"I knew that I told the truth and all the evidence show that I didn't break the rules. This is very clear.

"I said the same things twice. I proved it with every kind of evidence and, on top of that, there was evidence from the other team, so that just confirms my statement."

Having assumed that the matter was over once Toyota decided not to appeal, Trulli is glad that the FIA decided to look into it again after the evidence of the McLaren radio conversations came to light.

"They didn't have enough evidence then. It's good that they reconsidered it," he added.

"It means they really understand that there was something that they missed then. Just after the race things were probably a bit too chaotic for them.

"We did not appeal. We did not do anything, and I did not make any further comments. I think the FIA was clever enough to understand the situation.

"They had a very busy end of the race, with so many accidents, and they now had a bit more evidence to understand the case. So they wanted to hear us again, and it just confirmed what happened in Australia as I didn't change my statement.

"That is it. I don't know what made them change their mind.

"I am happy because I just wanted some justice, and I am happy I got it. I am happy for myself, for the team - and I have to thank the FIA because it does not happen very often that they reconsider something.

"It must have been really hard for them, but they had common sense to really try and understand what was going on. I have been always honest and it has paid off."<!--QuoteEnd--><!--QuoteEEnd-->

And then McLaren suspended their competition director as the scapegoat. I don't think Hamilton is guilty of 'lying,' but he definitely got caught between the team's instructions and the stewards.

But FIA stewards are often FOS... just look at how they penalized Vettel for what is clearly just a racing crash.

F1 is trying really hard to ruin this series.
