The resistor is on order, should be in by Tuesday. I'm surprised they even had one in stock ( some Porsche warehouse in Nevada ..)

OT , but on a related note - in my MBZ the fan knob is the same kind we have in the 968 but instead of 4 speed settings it has 12 settings ! You can hardly feel any air blowing in until about the 5th setting so the incremental differences at the lower speeds are so negligible not sure why they even bothered with those. Even above 6 the incremental differences while a bit more noticeable, are still small. I typically use that switch only from about 8 to 12. The 968's 4 speed is perfectly fine as far as I'm concerned ( when it works, that is.. lol )

Sounds to me like the rotary fan switch has fragged. You can put in a 944/2 climate control unit, you lose the detent pot for temperature but it'll fit an work. A good rotary switch can probably be soldered into your unit also.

For f**k's sake , the resistor is in and the good news is that settings 1-3 work just fine once again, but now the fourth setting which was the only one working previously ( albeit, intermittently ) stopped working, unless one wiggles / pushes/ pulls the button. So it seems to me it was not just the resistor problem with the 1-3 settings but in addition, a contact problem at the # 4 setting...? .. No idea how to fix that one now..

Ditto, the noise at 4 is annoying and I really don't notice more air movement, just more noise.

Probably just needs some contact cleaner.

contact cleaner sprayed where ? does that knob simply pull out , leaving enough space with access to the contacts through which you can spray the cleaner ? I have tried to pull it out before with no luck, but maybe it just needs more force or a pair of pliers to help that task ?
