I would think one could remove the Lock barrel and install the cam in it's place.
Just use the release button for hatch access. In the last 7 years of having these cars with 6 years being daily driver,
I'd say I used the key to open the hatch under 10 times.

Once I get my keyless entry going, I think I'm just going to paint the visible part of the lock black, so it's less noticeable, but still easily available should I need it. Plus it's more 'stock' looking than a custom plug. The tricky part might be finding paint that doesn't scratch off once the key hits it...
