Jeff, the reason i listed Midnight Blue Metallic twice is because there are 2 different color codes. And they both look very different when they are clean and waxed. L39C looks purple from certain angles in the sun. L37W does not. Here are a couple pictures of L39C, waxed up. In the second photo you can see the purpleesque hue in the top left corner of the car where the sun is shining. In the first photo, the purple-esque hue is obvious.
I've had my car parked next to L37W 968's a few times, and you can always see a difference in the paint. I first realized there were 2 different Midnight Blue's when i went to a Porsche gathering with my 968 back in spring of '06. There were two other 968's there (we all parked together). A Violet car, and an L37W Midnight Blue which parked right next to my car. Thats the first time i realized and found out we had different paint codes although both cars were midnight blue.

Jeff, here is one more picture from that get to gether. Granted my car was filthy so its not the best representation, but you can clearly see the two diff paint codes do not look idential.

The L39C looks close ( in the photo, anyway ) to my Iris blue, in just a slight darker shade. Love it !!
As for that pregnant frog shaped car in camouflage paint - wow, is there no limit to ugly ?! [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dry.gif[/img] But hey, whatever floats one's boat I suppose.. one man's Sarah Jessica Parker is another man's Jessica Biel [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif[/img]

DS, Iris Blue was one of the original colors i was looking for and one popped up on autotrader right after i purchased my car...literally two days later.
ROFLMAO @ "pregnant frog shaped car". First time i ever heard someone describe a 911 using those words. I literally spit up some coffee reading that.

That's crazy ! Why did they do that ? It seems like such a subtle difference. Maybe they ran out of something in the premix and decided to code it another color ? [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]

who knows. Most cars are available in 1 shade of blue (if blue is available at all). Sometimes there are 2 shades available. The 968 had a very limited production run with slightly over 12K cars sold worldwide for 4 model years, yet they offered 12 Different shades of blue. Insane.

I work at Hobie Cat designing kayaks and sailboats. We sell something like 20,000 kayaks a year, and we have maybe 9 colors at a time. Everyone pretty much craps their pants if adding another color is mentioned. It definitely seems insane to have 12 shades of just one color. It would be interesting to know how many 968s they were projecting to be selling...

Hmmm, any blue, especially maritime, cobalt, midnight. Aventurine green, amazon green, GP white, and any silver. Those would be my favs. I almost scored a maritime blue manual coupe, here in AZ, for I think it was 6k. I think the guy talked to Jeff, and found out his car was a rare color(i think it was a 93, or 92). The ad was listed for a couple months, and the price kept dropping, and honesly I was waitin it out, to see how much it would drop. Well, one day all of a sudden the price doubles I think to like 12k. The ad description was changed, and said only one was made or something that year, price firm. It sold it seemed immediately. I ended up with the GP white one for 8. Well kept, second owner. 120k. Not my first choice, but it was local, and a manual coupe is kinda tough to find without willingness to travel long distance. I like White. I bought it with the intent to turbo it. GP white was an original turbo s color. Not sure how many were white, but at least one. Figured it made sense, since I was doing a replica.

Although I like the subdued look of my car's slate gray metallic, come on, guys, there's only one color for a sports car - red! Guards red, fire engine red, whatever shade of red Ferrari is campaigning at any given time. Nothing snaps my head around (in the automotive world, anyway [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img] ) as fast as a blazing red sports car. Even our minivan is red!

My 3.0 951 is india red. Didnt want a 968 in red too. Guards red is a great color. It is very common tho.

Haha! Red is a common color...which would be a bummer if I EVER saw another 968 (except for Flash's car, which I believe he only drives at night so as not to let the UV rays damage that beautiful paint job).

Yes its rare to see any 968, let alone a red one, but there are a lot of other Guards red Porsches, 944s and 3.2s for example.
