Wow, I just assumed that the 968 was on the track back in the 90s. When did the 944 start showing up in mass? Why not the 968. Was it the popularity of the 944 and the 911 that kept the 968 at bay?

I'm also interested in chips. Do I recall seeing that its a simple operation, pop one out and plug another in. Or did Porsche do something silly like have one that was somehow "wired" in and couldn't be easily removed?

not sure why the 968 never really caught on. probably cost, weight, and lack of power.

chip swap is easy. instructions are here on the site.

Flash,

Reading about charts had me thinking. Where you ever able to come up with a chart that has the stock 968 #s on it and the SC Stage 3 info on it for comparisson? Or did I somehow miss that?

no. the problem is that i did the testing on 2 different dynos. but there is a chart with stock vs stage 1, and a stage 1 vs stage 3.

it helps if you're a double jointed contortionist / performer with Cirque Du Soleil. ( removing and putting back the box is a colossal PITA, IMO , the actual chip swap itself is a piece of cake.. once you recover from the dislocated shoulder, stiff back, cuts on your fingers and head bumps )

When I was messing around with chips on my '89 944Turbo, I used extension connectors. The chips (DME and KLR) were housed in a small box I mounted under the glove box with the connectors plugged into the boxes which stayed mounted in the footwell. A chip change literally took seconds.

i use something like that when i am tuning. much easier. when i am done, then i just insert the chip like normal. i'm looking forward to finally buttoning things up this weekend.
