Ten years this month.

Average Length of Ownership - bombfactory - 04-01-2014

4 years so far. Wish I could say it's been fun, but the car has needed much more work bringing it back to good health than I anticipated. And it's still not there yet!

Average Length of Ownership - flash - 04-01-2014

the funny part is that i thought it had only been 10 years. even at that i couldn't believe it. now that i know it's really 11, i feel really old. i can't believe i've been at this that long, and i'm still not quite done. it's been a fun journey though, and i've met some great people along the way.

lol - i'm going to have to look up how long the white has been here. that one scares me.

Average Length of Ownership - Langley968 - 04-01-2014

4.5 years

Bought with 79,000 miles and currently sitting at ~103,000

Mostly trouble free driving other than:

* the clutch hose "burst" (close to home)

* the water pump go (also close to home)

* had a spring in the rear parking brake assembly snap abd "lock" the rear drum up (and leave me stranded about 10 miles from home - flat bed required)

I must answer in two phases, since she has had two lives under my ownership

- 1 year 9 months until my son totaled it.

- 6 years and 2 months after I rebuilt it. And man was that a good idea!

But it is up to 182K miles now, been thinking I need another one with perhaps only 50-70K miles.

Average Length of Ownership - cosimo - 04-02-2014

14 + years, bought it with 45K miles, now has 140K miles. Don't know what I'd get next, maybe a Cayman as I'm partial to hatchbacks.I've owned Porsches for 28 years.

Coming up on 10 months. Bought a '92 triple black cab with 55,500 and am now at 59,500. I have put a good bit into it (including many of flash's upgrades) and it just keeps getting better. I have had my '84 black/black 928S for 20 years and I suspect I'll be keeping this car for the duration as well. 2 totally different rides that IMHO, look really good sitting next to each other!

Average Length of Ownership - Cloud9...68 - 04-02-2014

Interesting how many long term owners we have.

Average Length of Ownership - smshirk - 04-02-2014

It's a really hard car to sell. You can't get enough to warrant selling them. IT's just a lot better car than the values would indicate, IMO anyway. In fact I would like to have a Tiptronic coupe to go along with the 6 speed cab for a variety of reasons, mostly because the clutch is too hard for my wife to drive in traffic. I just don't have anymore room for anymore cars..

Good point, and I know this better than anybody. I couldn't sell mine for anywhere near what I considered a reasonable price a few years ago (and I wasn't being greedy), and now that I've converted it to a barely-streetable track-oriented car, I've cemented lifelong ownership, I'm sure.

I love this thread and +1 pretty much everything that everyone has said. Hatchbacks are awesome. Market value doesn't accurately reflect pleasure and reward of driving/ownership. The 968 is built to last. A community of long-term owners makes the experience even more fun!

I owned my 1992 968 coupe Amazon Green / Black and Tan turbo conversion for 3 years

I owned my 1994 968 coupe Black / Black for 2 years

I owned my 1994 968 m030 coupe Black / Black for only 1.5 years - sold it when trying to buy a house

Now I've had the 1994 968 Riv Blue / Marble Gray for 3.5 years and never plan to sell

And I've just bought the 1994 m030 coupe back, plus I have the 968 coupe project car

So even though I've not owned any particular 968 for very long, I've had a 968 for 10 out of the last 13 years and don't think I'll ever be without one for the rest of my life. It's really close to being the perfect car, IMO.

owned my first '94 Cab for 5 years, sold in '07,

I'm going on 4 years for my second 968, a '92 Cab

Re hatchbacks : seems every other sports-GT maker lately has been producing their flagship $ 100 K - $ 500 K cars with hatchbacks . It's clear to me they are doing that just to entice us to trade in our 968 for one of their models. Ha ! Not a chance.

We have the perfect car and at a small fraction of what those others cost now, or will...even when they depreciate. So hang on to our cars for life folks ! You may always find faster, or better looking ( somewhat debatable ), or better handling, or whatnot..but in every single and all respects, never an all-around better car ( for even double or triple the price ) IMHO.

DS cars or women? I was leaving the grocery store today and parked right where I was walking was a black 968 coupe. There aren't many of us in my area so I whipped out my phone and called who I thought the owner might be. Sure enough he was inside shopping. In his defense he is single and lives alone which is why he was inside food shopping. Poor bastard. Anyway I waited for him for a couple of minutes and he came out and we talked. He gets his car worked on in Canada. Makes my trip to Bordentown seem easy. His Dad lives up there and he visits frequently. He has done major underneath work while the outside is a little worn. He talked about selling it and getting a Vette because the parts were cheaper and more available. I thought hmmmm a parts car. Decided to think on that one. I am pretty purchased out. But he loved his car. He is a member of the forum but not active posting. A little off line but it was about another 968 owner!
DS cars or women? ;
What kind of a question is that ?! There were barely 12,700 968s produced world-wide, there are almost 3,300,000,000 women world-wide.

p.s. And yet....women. No contest :-) subject of course to a lot of qualifying factors.. :-) :-)
