How did you guys manually open the hatch when motor was not working? I'm experiencing a similar problem.

If you crawl into the hatch and pull back the floor liner - the part at the very back that is attached just under the hatch - there should be a wire with a ring on the end. Pull on it and it will manually open the hatch.
