I read about this awhile back and would love to do this.

Did you ever find out if the lighted E30 window switch would work?

Any cahnce you could give some details about this one?

nope - never did find out



details? - open up door and console - remove switches - cut wires - splice in new wires - run through door to new locations - connect to switches

I am looking for advice on trying to clean up all of the various switches on the dash. I was thinking of moving the hazard, rear defroster, etc to the center above the shifter, delete the outside temp. I have seen a few threads on the forum, but from a few years ago. If anyone has reconfigured the interior and come up with an arrangement that you think works well, let me know. thanks.

Every time I get back in the 968 from my E36, from habit I reach for the window switch next to the shifter, and hit the sunroof switch instead. For anyone who has spent time in E30 and E36 BMWs, window switches on the center console just seems like a perfectly natural, and in my opinion, better, location - for everyone else it probably makes no sense at all!



Agreed that not illuminating any of the switches - except the central locking switch (huh?) - was a pretty lame move by Porsche.



I may do Flash's switch switcheroo once I get done with the big stuff on this car.

Flash -  I know somewhere I saw a picture of your blue car that showed your seat heater switches in the dash, and I recall they were a perfect match for the other 968 rocker switches.  What car did those switches come from?

I was hoping you were going to say they came from an E30 BMW, which would lead me to believe that the lighted E30 window switches would also match perfectly.  It drives me crazy that 968 window switches aren't lit because it's so hard in the dark to find the dang things.  I like how you relocated yours but I don't want to go that far.

 

I might just have to buy a couple off e-bay and see what I can do.

Funny, am I the only one here who thinks the window switches belong on the door? Car magazines over here tend to share that opinion too. The mirror switch should be there too though.

Im fine with them on the door, because i dont like trying to reach around the shift knob for stuff, especially while driving.

But i would have placed the clock on the LEFT of the little cubby, so it would actually be visible most if the time, instead of obscured by shift knob (RHD car)

My preference would be for the window switches to be placed on the door arm rests. For ease of use, I think that 's an optimum location . Not sure how big of a PITA job that might be, but for my daily driver it's something i might consider .


Now if someone can only figure out a way to change the " off " setting on the windshield wipers stick to the lowest position instead of that being the intermittent setting, all would be right with the world , lol .

while i agree that having them on the door is fine, they have to be in a good spot (like the armrest). the location for the switch on the driver door is awkward to get to though.  you have to twist your arm, and reach around the steering wheel.

 

i have one on the passenger door.  

 

mirror selector switch is on the door now.
