Well, I wish I had my car there. I am in the process of replacing the top canvas. The trim shop just called me to let me know that the top was broken. The part that is broken is a vertical piece (when the top is up) just behind the window to which the seal attaches. It seems like a major structural part. I looked at it. It is fractured through the center part. It looks like aluminum to me. He called the local Porsche dealer who said that it cost $1100 plus shipping from Germany (not available locally)! AT this point, I suggested that they somehow weld it together, which is what they are going to try to do. I don't think this the "bow" that you guys are talking about. Where are those guys from "Monster Garage" when you need them?

Thanks. They have sent it out to be welded by a shop that does aluminum. Should be done today.

beware - that won't hold - many have tried - the metal is not capable of it
make sure they are going to back it up, and pay for the top when it pops again and rips through your top next time

I'm in SC so I definetly couldn't bring it in. Guess I will see if Sunset can get a replacment part and I'll have it installed. The back window could use a replacment anyways.

Since I just had the new top put on, I'm hoping the bow is ok. My shop did a great job and does tops all the time, so I'm hoping they would have pointed out anything that looked awry. Any way to check it out now that the top's on? Or just wait til it breaks? Has this been a persistent problem? Would appreciate your showing me the problem area in Hershey. <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/rolleyes.gif" class="smilie" alt="" />

Hey Dust! Wow, another twin sister, horizon blue cab out there somewhere? It has a linen grey/classic grey combo interior. She is somewhat rare, and she matches my eyes (the blue part, not the grey part). I know of Larry's car identical to mine in Alabama, figured there must be some others out there. Baby came to me in May 2005 (hey it's her adoption birthday!) from a couple in Ft. Lauderdale who bought it from the original owners, a couple in Pompano Beach. Any idea where yours ended up? Mine is a 92, VIN ending in 276. More importantly, glad you still have a 968 in your fleet...cool blue color!

My cab top bow is broken - so count me in on the purchase of a kit. Amazing as it may seem - the bow is held together by screws put through the rubber seal frame into the bow (done before I bought the car) and the power top still works. I am always concerned it will just go PoP some day. I have been hoping to buy a complete top from a dismantler as I need the skin replaced soon anyway.
