Well I'm not crazy about the tolerance of my original Pulley on the new spindle.
I'm going to think about that, but if it's just about getting the belt on I might give the new pulley a go.
While I'm thinking about that check this out: remember back in the 70s when marketers convinced us that having a tiny Dixie cup dispenser for the bathroom was a good idea? My car is back at my folks place where I'm keeping an eye on my dad who is recovering from back surgery at 78 years old. And my mom still has one of those Dixie cup dispensers!
Turns out the little plastic cups or just the right size to plug the lower radiator hose and keep it from drip drip dripping all over !
:0) ha!

you have to force the belt on with the OEM pulley. not likely any chance of getting it on with a larger pulley. also, be sure to get a new belt. these double sided belts do not like to be stretched, released, and then reinstalled. they wear out in a hurry when you do that. not sure why, but they really disintegrate fast.
another thing to think about is that the alternator will not be spinning at the right speed with a pulley of a different size
just get the right part to begin with

Would u remind me of the belt brand and size?
Or did a thread get started listing all the SC consumables and replacement parts? I just checked the SC documentation and didnt find any of that info.
Thanks

Also, it seems theres significant room in the tensioner to accomodate a longer belt, but we are struggling to fit a belt thats already tight at the shortest tensioner setting. A quick search of Dayco belts indicated half inch length increments.
Is there a problem with using a slightly longer belt and adjusting the tensioner up to fit?
What am i missing?

the belt is a dayco DK060674
the problem is that there are not a lot of double sided belt lengths. the double sided belt is a must. the last time i checked there were only about 9 lengths, none of which were anywhere near this one.

On search DK060674 comes up only under Gates or Carquest OE, Dayco does not show that number , it cross-references a DK060673. Possible they changed numbers , or am I looking at the wrong sites ?
( need a spare belt on standby because my former mechanic had to loosen mine and re tightened it at least twice , so now that I read that those belts don't particularly " like " that , thought I'd buy a spare but the above search results are the only thing that came up )
Gates is as good as it gets , so if that part number is exactly the same as the belt we have on our SC cars,
I'll get that one .

Rockauto lists gates DK060674 as having an outside circumference of 68.5 inches
Jegs.com lists a gates DK060702, with an outside circumference of 71.25 inches, or only about 2.75 inches longer which is a 4% increase in length.
What about using this Belt?
To gain a little bit of length and actually be able to get it to fit with the larger (not yet NLA) Pulley if necessary sounds like a win win
I just don't know how much 2.75 inches in total belt length would impact the available room within the tensioner for tightening the belt?
Maybe that's more than the tensioner can absorb?

when i was designing the supercharger, i ran into huge problems with belt length. in fact, i had to add pulleys to take up length. the adjuster has VERY limited ability. basically you can work with a belt plus or minus about 3/4". that's it. the heim joints just aren't long enough to handle anything else, and you NEED heim joints. bottom line - you are stuck with the belt length.
get the RIGHT PART!!! you have the wrong alternator. get a 968 105 amp unit, not the 944 unit (i think it's a wimpy 85 amps).

No, I got the right alternator, but it didnt come with a pulley or fan, so I had to transfer over my originals, and then my original pulley got damaged.
The new pulley is one I ordered from Sonnen porsche, on the chance it might work.
I am in the process of sourcing a used 968 pulley.

hmmm - the alternator should have come with a pulley and fan, if you got it from porsche

So, since Dayco does not list a "DK060674" , how do we know if the Gates one with that number is the exact length ( 68.5 " ) we need ?!

It's a 92-93 Corvette belt.
