Eric,
Keep me in mind and let me know if you enter the March Enduro. I'll look at my schedule and try to get down to cheer you on for the race and/or would be glad to help out in the pits however I can. It's the next best thing to driving I have relatives in Portland, so we like to visit there regularly.
I am driving at the Spokane BMW school this weekend - I'm trying out the new swaybars and have fresh RA-1's to run on. I'm planning on a weekend of smiles
Cheers, Stephen

If you need a racing fix or got time on your hands, here is the video from the 8 hour condensed down to 25 minutes. It is a 125mb Windows Media file so it may be best to download to your local machine and then watch it.
The in-car camera was recording to a 4GB Memory stick and as an experiment it worked decently. The camera shifted farther and farther left as the race went on and eventually you can't see anything in front of the car. It makes the last couple hours a bit frustrating to watch! Then the battery died just before dark. The out of car stuff was shot by my Dad.
What you see in this encoding of the video is the full resolution of the in-car camera (320X240). I tried to sift thru the stints and pick out interesting bits but it is not easy with 6.5 hours of video. You will see the eventual 3rd place yellow euro M3 several times. The last driver change stop is unedited - because we did that one pretty good!

The 968 may not be the fastest thing around, but there is no doubt, it is an awesome car.

Hey Eric, have you ever tried the sticky pod? Not sure if it would be better or worse for recording races, but apparently proffesional video people use it.

I'm not sure I know what a Sticky pod is. Is that the mount that attaches by suction cups? I'm sure you could get some cool angles with it but I wouldn't race with it.

More post mortem:
We were real lucky this CV lasted 4+ hours. The boot is ripped in half and most of the grease is gone. It was brand new too.
Tire Wall 1, Fender 0
The grill and turn signal lens were also blown out. Good thing the bumper cover is so flexible.
Some more good race pics:

Congrats Eric: I love the fact that you beat the Bimmers. Do you think the fuel economy of the 968 makes a big difference. Were you able to take fewer fuel stops than the bimmers. How many sets of tires did you need. I notice in the pics you ran hoosiers. Would slicks have made a difference in lap times?

The fuel economy would make a difference but I'm limited by the stock tank size. A large cell for the 968 is serious $$$ (Kokeln). The bimmers can fit pretty large standard shaped cells in their trunks. In fact, the black BMW has a second cell in the passenger seat area so they could only stop twice in 8 hours. I guess I could do that too, but something about all that gas in the car bothers me.
We stopped five times for a total of 8:22. Which is pretty good for a club level endurance race. The yellow M3 also stopped 5 times but for longer since they did a tire change and more driver changes. I was running shaved Toyo RA-1s. They last the full race and any speed they give up is more than made up for by not having to change them. The RA-1s are great because they are consistent the whole race and drop off very little.

Eric: Are both your front and rear windshields lexan?....Where to buy?

My windshield is still glass. I've heard good things about the Shields products.

Eric:
I spoke to HRP today. I am ordering both front and rear "shields".
1) Should I go with 3/16th or 1/8th thickness.
2) Do you think I need the rear windsheld reinforcement strips or
should I just have it glued in like regular glass?

Personally, I would go 1/4 for the windshield and 3/16 for the rear. The thinner it is the more it flexes. Not a big deal for the rear but it is for the front. Thin windshields usually have bracing behind them. I wouldn't do the straps/supports in the rear unless class rules require it or you go with the 1/8, they do very little. Good luck.
