Put some antifreeze in that tank...

LOL
More like coolant, I don't think his car is gonna see anywhere near freezing temps.

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-14-2010

lol - no radiator there at the moment

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-14-2010

just another teaser shot - this time of the mounting plate and the standoff brace - this is pretty much how it will come shipped to you, with many components already installed, torqued, etc:

Hmmm...this is looking real!

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-14-2010

lol - yeah - figured it was time to post something, before the peanut gallery started chiming in about it being a hoax

i don't want to post any more though until it's done, just to avoid the back and forth and inevitable shots from the cheap seats - there are some unique and innovative items in this kit, that resolve the heretofore unaddressed design issues, as well as prevent tampering, modifying, or duplication, and i don't want to let the cat out of the bag until it's all finished

soon though - very soon

Yeah now I have to decide between this, IMA turbo, Kubota tractor, Bobcat or 996.

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-14-2010

lol - that is just about as eclectic as it can get

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-14-2010

now that i'm getting down to the wire, i'd like to get a head count on those that will be in the first batch - i don't expect and frankly don't want anybody to really do anything until we show charts, results, yada yada, and i don't want anybody sending anybody any money until we are there - but, i would like to know how many i need to make in the first batch, once i do publish that information, and it would expedite things if i knew ahead of time

the way it will work is that i will make as many as i have orders for in the first batch - after that i will have to accumulate 10 orders before i can do a run, and as you can imagine, that might take a while

also if you wanted to walk away with one at hershey, we will need to conclude the transaction beforehand, as this is not something that will be carried in stock, and will always be made up in batches - it's just too expensive any other way

we can maintain the sub $4k price until hershey - after that, it will go up a bit, but we will always strive to make it the lowest priced kit on the market, while maintaining the most complete setup

so, if you have not done so already, please send me an email if you are one of those people

side note: CARB certification will be in process, and we anticipate no issues, but it will take a while - when we get it done, the sticker will be sent to those who purchase the kit before the certification

Hey Flash. Could you educate me more on the limitations with the Tip. I own a Tip and I'm interested in the SC kit, but I don't really understand the limitations you mentioned with the programming. If the flex plate were the only concern, I'd be wiling to plop a deposit and give it a try.

Regards,
Kurt

pete discovered that the tip DME unit is different than the manual trans unit - also the tip has its own control system - these will likely not play well with the chip we would need to run - between the two, there are a number of safety protocols built into the tip to prevent harsh shifts - the supercharger may well cause problems that the system cannot accommodate

i haven't tried myself to play with the chips in a tip, while plugged into the hammer, to see what happens - perhaps we can perform that test soon - i'll talk to pete

the flex damper is a big variable too - we just don't know how much power it can handle, and they already are known to fail

as for a deposit or anything like that, we aren't looking to have a system go out the door for a trial - there are just too many parts that can't be adequately returned to new condition once they are installed - if you wanted to buy one and try this out yourself, that's fine - if it doesn't work, i imagine you shouldn't have too much trouble selling it

sorry this isn't easier, but we would rather be safe than sorry - we would rather sell fewer systems and have everyone who buys one happy, than to sell as many as we can without consideration, and have somebody unhappy

I am very interested but I do have some concerns. As with every newly developed kit there are going to be issues with this kit too, call it design flaws if you will, but this is just the nature of engineering and not something that reflects on you personally. Judging by the other parts that I have already gotten from you and Pete I suspect these issues to be truly minor but this is at least for me a concern about whether I should go for batch 1 or a later and thus improved version. Or will the early kits be upgraded at a no or low cost?

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-15-2010

first off, i'm going to beat the heck out of this thing to make sure it is right - it will also be tested on a second car - we want it to be perfect - this is a lot more critical than any other item we have done

if there is a design flaw that causes any issues that cannot be easily user corrected, i will replace any part that causes that issue at no cost, just as i have done in the past

if there is a design improvement, that would likely be limited to subsequent versions

remember that my car is the benchmark - if i find anything of issue, you can be sure i'll deal with it

Thanks for the explanation, Flash. "Deposit" was a bad choice of words on my part. I would not imply that you lend me anything. If you guys get to a point where the risks are well defined for the Tip, I'll buy one. Software/Firmware is not one of my strong points, but breaking stuff is right up my alley. Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-15-2010

lol - no worries - i just wanted to make sure we were on the same page

i'll see what we can do about better defining the real risks and issues with the tip - if it can be done, of course we would want to do it - a supercharger in a tip would really make it feel like a little V8 in there

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-15-2010

update on tiptronic:

the DME has connections to other areas that limit exposure to damage - for example, the timing is cut back at shift points - this is a good thing for us, as it will limit detonation risk (which is why they did it as well)

the Tip computer limits redline and forces shifts to prevent over-rev and excessive pressure - this is a good thing for us too, as this also limits damage potential

a chip will work the same in a tip as in a manual, as far as timing and fuel mixture are concerned, during all points except at shifts, and allowing higher redline - there is a possibility that it might run a bit rich at the moment of shift points, but unless you are shifting ALL the time, it should not be an issue

so, the electronics part of the equation does not seem to be an issue - maximum output numbers would probably be a bit lower than with a manual, due to both the increased drivetrain loss and the limiting factors of the tip computer

now it's just down to the flex dampener - we are working on figuring that one out - film at 11

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-16-2010

picked up a bunch of parts today - some work great - some need small changes - no worries

am playing around with them right now - will update later today with results

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-16-2010

ok - after going back, i am basically 0 for 4 on the parts today - lol - i blew it on one - they blew it on one - i have to make a change on 2 to make them fit better, and make allowances for differences between cars

new parts tomorrow morning

oh well - at least they are going to be right - getting them right and knowing that every car is different and making allowances for that is the key to a good kit

i'm not rushing and letting something out that is half-baked

still on track for under $4k too!!!

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 02-17-2010

all changes are in - just waiting on the new parts - another job slipped in front of me, so this stuff won't get done until tomorrow

the good news is that having to make a change on one part led me to a rather serious improvement in another area

lol - i feel a little like the pharmaceutical researcher searching for a cure to cancer and accidentally coming up with a cure for E.D.

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - Anchorman - 02-17-2010

Forget the supercharger, I'll take that E.D. cure, thanks.
