lol - nope - sorry - it was a very odd sum of circumstances - i predicted a problem, but didn't think i was going to be the one to take the hit

anyway - much better today, and am back on the project in about an hour

Bob,

Glad that you are OK. As you know we lost Greg Ladani after a fall from the stage not too long ago. Kick ass mixing engineer. At your age you should have then put safety lines around the stage while you are setting up. ha ha
Missed NAMM this year. Maybe next.

Brian

Glad your OK Bob. As much as we all want to see this SC kit completed, we want you back at 100% even more. Well, maybe not more... but it's close.

Take it easy. Work only 6 days and nights this week.

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 01-22-2010

i watched bob churmside (sp?) go into the pit at radio city - not good

thanks guys - i'm getting better by the hour

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - Scott Collins - 01-22-2010

Flash,

What were you doing on stage?

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 01-22-2010

lol - obviously i was preparing to fall - but seriously - i was producing a show

but back to the supercharger - i am sending some drawings out today for some of the parts - WOOHOO!!!

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 01-22-2010

spent a few hours on it today - finally got to the stuff i've been dragging my feet on, that are for just my own car, but were in the way of the project going to the next step

i should wrap up all mockups but the airbox tomorrow - more parts ordered today and the rest on monday

some stuff will be sent out monday too, and as soon as they come back, i can start fitting things

then it's just the airbox and tuning

Flash: "ok - after finally deciding to be an adult and go to the doctor, and finding out that i have been fighting a kidney infection now for over 2 weeks, "

Glad you're ok Bob. Regarding the kidney infection, to avoid it make sure you wipe front to back

Take three days off. Sleep. Read. Watch TV. Life will continue and you'll be better off (and so will the rest of us). Take care.

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 01-23-2010

thanks guys - i'm ok - taking is slow, but keeping moving - better each day, and now back to making progress

as soon as it warms up a bit this morning, i'm back down in the garage to wrap up the last stuff so i can send this round of stuff out on monday

i can see the light at the end of the tunnel now

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - ds968 - 01-23-2010

if you hadn't taken care of your kidney infection, you might've seen another light at the end of some tunnel , so good to hear you listened to the good Dr and took your meds. the drawback : can't have wine while on antibiotics..

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 01-23-2010

actually, with Cipro, you can (not a lot though)

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 01-23-2010

this is actually turning out to be a lot of fun

after making the mockup and fitting everything, i decided to take it all out and reinstall it, so as to check how somebody else would have to do it - after going through that process, i found it was a bit cumbersome and a lot of small pieces were involved - it was almost like you needed 5 hands to install it - fitting the belt was no easy feat either

so, i decided to go back to the drawing board on the mounting plate

lol - the ironic thing is that i think it got better by a long shot once i tossed the original idea - i kept approaching it from the same perspective, and kept running into the same complications - once i came at it from a new direction, everything got simpler and stronger, and had a LOT less pieces and parts

not to worry - i'm already just about there - i have one last thing to work out, but i think i'm in good shape, and should be done later today or early tomorrow with the new version

taking a week off sometimes has its benefits

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - Cloud9...68 - 01-23-2010

"taking a week off sometimes has its benefits"

So true. When working on a problem with the car, the house, or something work-related, it never ceases to amaze me how much it helps to simply step away, clear your head for a little while, and then come back to it. It takes a certain amount of discipline (or maybe an unexpected illness...) to do it sometimes, but it really does help. Sounds like things are really coming together with this project.

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 01-23-2010

yup - i just went down and verified and finished the design - it just got so much simpler it stunned me - i sat there staring at it thinking "it can't be that simple" - but it was - i am so stoked - a true epiphany

i have resolved the fragile AC compressor ear and tensioner problem
i have resolved the "how do i get all this in there?" problem
i have resolved the oil cooler location and plumbing (that was actually very cool)

i will have parts out for fab next week - i should be able to show pics of the unit installed in the car in about a week - it probably will not have the airbox done yet, and likely won't have the engine bay aesthetic piece in yet, but you'll definitely get a chance to see what it is all going to look like very soon

more upside news: the installation now looks like it will take well less than 8 hours start to finish, including jacking the car up and everything

more upside news: a lot of the stuff will come pre-assembled to avoid incorrect torquing, insure belt alignment, and things like that

Flash - what kind of shows are you producing?

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - pinball1008 - 01-24-2010

Flash, like many here I can't wait to see the finished project (even though with a tip I can't have one ) but take care of yourself and rest often. Even if this costs a few extra days, the finished project will be well worth the wait.

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 01-24-2010

rest - getting enough of that - not pushing it

shows - we can talk about that offsite

supercharger and tip - we are looking into it, but the likelihood is that it will be either expensive or complicated to find out if it would be safe - the flex dampener is a weak link, and the computer might not let us alter the program enough - there is a lot going on in the tip programming, and frankly we don't know anybody willing to let us blow up their car to figure it out

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - Scott Collins - 01-24-2010

Flash-

Glad you're on the mend.

Get Ready - Get Set - BLOW!!!! - flash - 01-24-2010

worked on it some more today - felt good to R&R it and make sure it was easy to assemble - when you see how many pulleys are in there you'll understand

so, tomorrow morning i will wrap up the drawings and send them off for prototype fab - WOOHOO!

as a result of this project, i also have come up with a kit to resolve the fragile AC tensioner issues - we have seen far too many expensive AC compressors snap an ear, and too many tensioners get broken - the kit i came up with will fit both supercharged and normally aspirated cars, and relieves a LOT of tension from the belt, and increases belt wrap, as well as reinforcing weak components - the kit will be included as an add-on in the supercharger kit, but will also be sold separately - i'll put pics up on it in a week or so, and pete will be carrying it

i will start working on the airbox later tomorrow so that i can send that out for fab by the end of the week

oh, and by the way, so far i am still on target on pricing under $4k!
