Seller won't return phone messages
#1

I have a line on a 968 that's sitting outside in a public place with a

"for sale" sign on it and the number to call.

(Edit: the seller calls me back, see below)

well, first - he could be busy, gone, or just not too quick to let go of his baby

second, if you plan to try to negotiate price, expressing too much interest will likely not help you

i would try to find out if he has been at work, without letting on who you are or why you are calling - that will give you a pretty good indicator of if he is ignoring you or not

Well that was strange, about 20 minutes after I posted the seller calls.

The car is a 94 6-speed coupe, 60k miles, price $14.5K. The seller

didn't know that the car had a DOHC. Couldn't tell me anything

about the condition of the timing chain, pads, etc.

Supposedly has records, timing belt changed 2 years ago at 45K miles.

Didn't know whether the water pump was changed at the time.

Recent 60K service but did not include TBelt change.

Stumbled badly on the reason for the sale. Finally told me

kids won't fit in the back seat.

Didn't ask about the pinion bearing but I already gathered that the

seller was not an enthusiast and probably wouldn't know. Tells me

he has a friend who advises him on servicing the car.

Repaint due to hail damage, says aluminum <img src="/forum/images/smilies/968/huh.gif" class="smilie" alt="" /> hood was replaced.

Couldn't tell me if it was a full or partial repaint.

Carfax checks out OK.

I guess I'll go look at it with a jaundiced eye.

sounds like somebody who just isn't an enthusiast - there are a lot of them out there - you could get lucky

Good miles, good price. If it checks cosmetically move on to the PPI fast.
