I'm curious on the ignition switch.  My key has to be just right or the fans and lights don't work.

Mine was the same, and when the power was interrupted to the heater, the vacuum to the heater valve would go off and the valve would default to the "on" position. Simple fix, part is not terribly expensive for a Porsche part, after the swap the problems went away.

Matt, would this be a "while you are in there" type of maintenance or can it be done with the steering wheel and dash on? My car has 90,000 miles and while no problems like you mentioned, is it a good idea to do now?

It's not the miles, it's the number of times that it has been turned off and on. Frankly, I would have changed mine when I had the dash out last summer if I had known that the random heat issue was caused by the switch. I am a believer in preventative maintenance, but I also hate replacing good parts. If it feels sloppy and there are not clear detents for each position, change it and avoid having the heat on when it's 106 in the shade. Been there...

 

The right one has a wire pigtail that matches the cable connector on the car. If you buy the wrong (964) one it will have places for you to solder the wires yourself, and it will cost more too. Sunset has the right one, don't let the dealer sell you the one that is the replacement number.

If you are planning to do the odometer gears, here is a site for replacements. Take your old ones out first so you can order the right ones. Mine was in pieces when I removed it, so counting the teeth was a bit of a challenge. Do both gears while you are in there.
