I completely agree with fox on his posted choices btw , and I kinda' also like the 575 Maranello. The f 430 is not too bad either

I absolutely hate the Testarossa, the Mondial, and the very plain "family sedan looking" one .. was that the 401 ? not sure..

And as for the the Enzo : YUK !

But would I refuse to drive any of those just because I don't like the looks ? No, I'd take most Ferraris any day any time.. except the Testarossa - seriosly, I would not be seen in that monstrousity.

It'd be a tough call for me, but probably my favorite Ferrari looks-wise is the 360. And yes, the Enzo is pretty hideous. Not a big fan of the Testarossa, either.

While i'm no fan of the red head, the second to last version isnt as bad as the previous versions.....This is a 512TR, the final and last red head (512M is the most hideous imho)

I liked each one more and more as they continued developing them. The 355 - 360 - 430 and now the 458. That profile is stunning! Funny thing, When they first went to the f430 I thought they took a step backward in design. Now I prefer it over the 360. This one makes the 430 look 20 years old.

Some design highlights.

4.5 L V8 producing 560 hp at 9,000 rpm

While you might say that the exterior more or less based on the traditional Ferrari lines, there are also a few revolutionary new ones, all intended to improve the car’s aerodynamics. The front end features a single wide mouth opening to let a specific amount of air in paired with a vent on either front fender. Out back there are a pair of large ducts just before the taillights, all designed with aerodynamic contours and partitions that direct air directly into the radiators and away from the new flat underbody. The nose also sports small aeroelastic winglets which generate downforce and, as speed rises, deform to reduce the section of the radiator inlets and reduce drag.

Most exotic and super cars are going that way. Traditional manuals will become extinct at some point very soon, especially in high performance vehicles. Up and down shifts are perfect, and they are quicker with a sequential gearbox. The 997 Turbo with PDK is much quicker down the 1/4 then one with a manual transmission. Many race cars, including F! cars have long used sequential gearbox's because of these reasons.

Its unfortunate because it makes the vehicles are less engaging to drive. The way of the future is in electornics. Long g9one are the days of couble clutching & rev matching an Alfa Romeo just to switch gears. Its not only with cars, but motorcycles as well. My last bike was a Ducati 748 with an 853 Big Bore kit, Termignoni Header & full exhaust, Open Airbox, Chip, & ohlins suspension. Sure my cousins brand new Honda 2009 CBR600RR was much faster & better handling. But it was less engaging to ride. My bike didnt have traction control or any granny aids for that matter, his had many...and they make up for rider error in the same fashion many of the elctronics on todays cars make up for driver error. For an experianced driver, It isnt difficult to run a sub 8min lap around nurburgring in a Nissan GT-R. But its very difficult for that same driver to run a sub 8min lap in a faster Porsche GT2 or Corvette ZR-1.

Gone are the days of bikes like the Ducati 998R, and cars like a Porsche 964 Turbo S. Newer vehicles are far less fun to drive and less engaging, despite being much quicker and better handling thanks to electronics.

While the new vehicles are amazing in their ability's.......i think my toys will always be older, more mechanical things which are far more engaging and fun to pilot.

Sorta like watches - mechanical vs. quartz.

You really can't beat quartz for accuracy and dependability, but I'll take a mechanical any day. I have four watches - two of which are quartz and haven't been worn in over three years. My daily is a japanese mechanical and my "toy" watch, which hardly gets anymore wrist time, is a swiss mechanical. I really enjoy the nature of the mechanicals. Would love to have a nice display back mechanical.... Yes, I would take it off often just to look at the mechanism doing its thang!! [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif[/img]

As for the Ferraris- I'm partial to the 360CS and the 430 Not really into the new Ferraris all that much. I think the California is fugly. Never really cared for the Enzo either. Too kit car-ish for me. Never really flowed.

BTW, my thoughts on the watch analogy is precisely just that.. automatic / mechanical any day any time over any quartz. ( and this coming from someone who owns about a dozen of them, ranging from IWC, to Le Coultre, to Hublot, to Cartier, and a few others so I'm not just "commenting from the sidelines".. ) That's the one reason I think I will never buy a new car; I hate electronics in vehicles ; the less computerized crap the better the diving experience for me. i know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and i admit im a little biased but I feel like any 80's era ferrari is amazing... that being said, i do agree on the mondial. too stubby imo. I grew up with pictures of the testarossa in particular on my wall, had models of the car... maybe i only like it because its unapologetically 80's... same reason i think the lines of the 308 are the most classic of any ferrari. (barring the 250 of course)

as for the italia... i honestly think its hideous... now of course comparing classic design to modern design is unfair so i'll concede that the f430 and the 360 are great modern designs. To me, the italia takes the modern "classic" that is the f430 and stuck on a body kit and tweaked a few areas.

IM-not-so-HO [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif[/img] , Ferrari made the absolute perfect, eternal sports car: the Dino 246 GT ( paging Mr and Mrs Hart ! [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif[/img] )
and then all that was needed is just to add more power, suspension mods, etc.. with each new generation of the model as technology advances would allow. There was no need to ever design another body style, that car was a flawless piece of ART.

I'm with you, Dan! How could I have forgotten the Dino? I would have to say it even tops the 360 in the looks department. Plus, I love its compact proportions. I've always been partial to smaller cars.
