Wondering if it's the same reason I replaced mine in the blue car ; the plastic was turning yellow and I did not like that aesthetic with everything else in that engine bay looking new and shiny .

I had changed mine due to the yellowing and it was actually darker in color up to the line of coolant which I tried to soak to clean it using a strong bleach solution but the dark color was permanent. I could not see the coolant level in the old container. The new one is clear and I can see the level.

I changed it because I was doing a bunch of work under the hood and got tired of looking at the old yellowed plastic. No functionality difference... Like Williamoss said it was difficult to see the level. Not impossible, but the new one is easily seen.
