Paintless dent removal
#1

so a few days ago, before i started to take my car apart, a tenis ball fell from my neighbors roof and hit my hood. Didn't think anything of it, because it was at night, and i just put the car cover on. When i started doing the belts i noticed a small indentation on my hood. How well do these paintless dent removal companies do their job? leveled out the indentation, but, to no accord, in the right light you can see the a small crease. I'll post pics in a bit however cant find the camera. Money is no issue to fixing the hood. The least costly, best-looking way i could go about this.

Thanks,

Rene

I've used PDR guys and they do phenomenal work but I have not tried on the 968. Some of them shy away from aluminum, is the hood aluminum?

There was a PDR guy at the celebration last year, did a phenomenal job with several cars.

99% sure the hood is not aluminum.

Yep, since the steel is soft it dings easily, but then again it's fairly easy to get the ding out. I was amazed when I had some work done. With these cars, it pays to know someone that's good at PDR...

Really depends on the experience and skill of the franchise operator. Even on the thin metal of the 968 it does work wonders. Some spots are difficult due to access issues. The contraptions they use generally work from underneath.

Since it's on the hood, it's easily accessable from both sides. I'll call a few body shops tomorrow and see who they recommend. It might be a problem, being post-Katrina, finding a good reputable person to do the job. Thanks, almost pulled my hair out on this one.

I've got "elbow dents' from PO on both my fender tops. Dare I tackle popping these back out? I have some body work experience and know this would be tricky. As Flash points out, the happen pretty easy...maybe the can "unhappen" pretty easy too?

I have one of these in my garage and it's been very helpful.

It obviously can't fix everything, but it can work very well.

I also have one of these units and have used it on elbow dents on the fenders. It worked fine.

Small door dings above the rear wheel were to "pointy" to pull out. I used the detail department at Park Place. Joey did an excellent job.

I'd not seen this before. Looks like it may work OK. What's the downside? You have to keep buying tool pieces and glue? It also says, "Within minutes, this gadget partially popped out most of our smaller impressions without harming the finish."

Partially?

How many extra glue sticks does one need, etc? I have about 1 dozen or so dents among my various rigs. Looks like it might be worth a try.

It'll be a long time before you need to buy new supplies.

Just don't come after me if it doesn't do what you want. I'm just saying: for the money, it's hard to pass up, and it does have an effect.

My seat-of-the-pants take on this is that the kit can greatly reduce dents where a skilled PDR guy can make them go away.

Still haven't fixed the dent. Everytime i get in my car to drive, i cringe. I'm going to have a local PDR guy do it. On my S2 i had like 70 dents, more like 6. I was only quoted 140 for all. I feel that's cheap.

And, yes... i'm still sporting the virgina brake tag.... i mean inspection sticker.. perhaps i should go get one.
