paint job
#1

Just saw an ad on TV - MAACO ' new year special : your entire car painted for

$ 275, a 50% discount from their otherwise pricey $ 550 .

Woo-hoo ! Now those of us who always wanted a horizon blue, or amazon green, or some other color 968 would be well advised to rush out and get that car done before the offer expires..

The alternative of course would be to buy $ 275 worth of crayons in your favorite color and DIY - I'm pretty sure the end result in quality and longevity would be close..

lol - reminds me of a buddy i had when i was very young that shot his car in the garage with rattle cans

actually, maaco does a pretty good job of spraying - they have to - if you think about it, they can't afford to screw up because their low profit margin wouldn't have room for it - their materials are good and the technique is fine

that being said, the reason that those kinds of paint jobs look bad or don't last is the faulty prep - like anything, it's all in the prep - their standard M.O. is just to scuff and shoot - then they have a spot prime level - then the whole ball of wax above that

i've had some really good stuff done there over the years - i did all the prep at my shop, and then sent the car over for spray - worked great

if you go in and talk to them, you will quickly find out that the price is really a lot higher to get a good job - the difference is in the time they spend on the prep, and how much they primer

they won't do custom work though, and they won't color sand - also, they have very limited color selection - so, no, i wouldn't take my porsche there, but i might take the jeep there, if it were any other solid color than black
