Original vintage?

Swapped distrib/rotor/wires/plugs this weekend.   I was disappointed by the condition of the old stuff; sure hope they've been changed before, but I'm wondering.

 

Any experts care to comment on the vintage of these parts?  '94, 105K.

Could be originals.

Distributor cap should have yellow firing order sticker (or residue) if original. Porsche probably has none of these stickers left, but you could ask sunset. I got one last year. They will only sell you one per VIN, due to scarcity.

The original plugs had the triple prongs.

Distributor didn't have a sticker...but I understand they have disappeared over time, and even some didn't have one.

 

Based on the three-prong plugs, I'll assume these where original to the car.  Yikes!

 

 

BTW,  I'm not a concours guy, but I saw this reproduction sticker for sale on eBay, for those who may be interested.

Yeah, my car was much the same, down to the triple prong plugs. Sad commentary on the level of care given by POs, but oh well, I'm enjoying driving the car more and more as I work on it, learn about it, and continue to bring it closer to original condition.

The plugs were still available as of a few years ago as I replaced mine with new triple prongs. SO there goes the original plugs theory.

not a fan of those plugs.  great for starting in cold weather and such, but horrible if you plan to rev the engine much.  they don't dissipate heat well enough.  almost a sure fire (pardon the pun) way to blow things up in a supercharged motor.

The triple prongs are still available, I bought a set until I learned about the iridium plugs here on the forum, then I switched to those.

I was simply stating that considering their condition and the evidence from more than one car's history, it's possible they are the original plugs.

no worries.  just putting it out there.  nothing really wrong with them, if the car is being driven as intended (a GT).  for track, or especially supercharged applications, they are pretty much toward the bottom of the scale, and could cause issues under sustained high rpm running or load.

 

it is amazing though at how long some people keep their plugs and stuff in there.  they do degrade in performance over time, and it's so gradual that you don't notice that you are giving up some power and fuel economy.  i change mine probably too often, but then i want it at its peak level all the time.

I replaced my plugs with brand new NGK plugs and they were 3 pronged  BPR6ET
