THE COST OF THE 4th OF JULY,
#1

remember to be safe, enjoy the family, enjoy the friends, enjoy the food, enjoy the FREEDOMS,

but remember that ---FREEDOM IS NOT FREE ---,

Take a few minutes to remember those that gave you that gift of Freedom,

Honor those that served and sacrificed for these freedoms,

Don't just mindlessly watch the fireworks and think how awesome they are, enjoy and remember what they are celebrating!

Be Safe, may God continue to bless you, and this Great Country!

Ken,

I agree with you entirely. Both of my Grandfathers made it home from WWII but gave up significant parts of their lives for our freedom. My mothers father died when she was seven from a japanese cleanup related illness, my fathers father was crippled from 50 on from arthritis from injuries he suffered in europe. I wish I could have thanked both of them for what they have given us.

Several Veterans live in our neighborhood and I try to make sure I thank them for their service as soon as I meet them.

Bruce,

You probably don't know or ever will know how much those 'thank yous' really mean to those guys. I'm sure they all sheepishly accept the thanks and down play their service, but deep down I know each of them respect you for your effort to acknowledge them. Experience speaking here.

I'm fortunate enough to be working at HQ AFSPC (Headquarter Air Force Space Command) here in Colorado and get to see these guys daily. I can't go out and do the things I did in VN 37 years ago but I do what I can today to support as best I can.

My father was wounded in the neck in Germany in WWII, he lost two brothers (my two uncles), he had problems until his passing in '69. A rough time for me as I was in VN at the time.

There is rarely a day pass that I don't thank the Big Guy upstairs for all I have and appreciate this Country for the Freedoms most people accept and assume as a right that is owed to them.

Have a good safe holiday, and if you run into any of those neighborhood veterens, give them another Thanks.... regardless of when or how they served...

Ken, thanks for the thoughtful post. Also, I want to thank you for your service to our country from 1967-1969. I can only imagine what you endured. I was quite saddened to learn that your father, who served during WWII, passed away while you were on tour.

...sheepishly, Thanks...

I have no regrets nor sorrow laden thoughts, just a burning desire to LIVE my life to the fullest as I'm sure many that fell would want me to do.

Now and then I step up on my soap box to remind people what some of our 'Hoildays' are about! Too often we are too self absorbed or too busy to reflect on the real meanings and purposes these FREE days off work!

Enough of that for now, I have a confession to make to all...

...everytime I see your stable I get 'porsche' envy... What agreat line of cars!

Awww... shucks... I really appreciate your kind thought. To be honest, I can't remember the last time someone complimented me on my passion, which is on display in the line-up. If ever you are in Northern Alabama, you can help me exercise each and every one. I'll go ahead and set a launch pad date for the "Red Rocket."

I would consider that an honor.

I love the smoothness of my 968, but for just plain fun I think my, or most any, 944 is a real kick in the pants.

It's just easier for me to push the 944 harder than I would the 968...

I'm on my 4th 944, they seem to wear out after awhile and now they're cheaper to buy than to put a bunch into to fix, for just a driver...

Just to add to the theme of this thread, this little tidbit of trivia:

The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States. The lyrics were written in 1814 by Francis Scott Key, a 35-year-old lawyer and amateur poet, after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Maryland by British ships in Chesapeake Bay during the War of 1812. It became popular as a patriotic song after it was put to the tune of the English drinking song To Anacreon in Heaven

Ok that explains EVERYTHING! [Image: cheers.gif]

..then there IS hope for an emerging country somewhere ( or one which

is contemplating changing its anthem ) to borrow the music from:

Chumbawomba 's " I get knocked down..."

There must be something subliminal in drinking songs which instills a sense of national pride, don't you think ?

Hope everyone had a great Holiday !!

Could a North Alabama 968 social be in the makings. There may be some Tn. car owners that would be interested. I would!

You talkin' to me? YOU talkin' to me, Larry? (Said in Taxi Driver, De Niro style, of course. )

Larry, that would be wonderful! I know of a Tennessean that would be interested, and I have a few friends here in town, including my father, who would probably want to get together, as well.
