No longer a DD!
#1

My daughter returned my 2003 Jetta last night, all washed and waxed. She and her husband just bought a BMW Z4 and no longer needed the VW they had driven for 5 years. So now it is my daily driver! A sweet car - 2003 GLS 1.8T with the sport package of stiffer springs, larger anti-roll bars, and 17" wheels. I forgot how much fun it is to drive - 180 HP in a good-handling little car!

And the 968? Had it professionally washed, compounded, and waxed. Then I put her in the garage under a soft car cover. She will come out for the local PCA concours this weekend, future sunny Saturdays, and barbeque runs. Sort of semi-retirement with occasional athletic events. This was perfect timing, with 113k on the odometer. Also allows me to consider solutions for the degrading rear hatch that are hard to figure out when you are driving the darned thing every day.

A Porsche under a car cover in the garage patiently waiting for you to come home at night, kind of like a puppy.

So this is what it is like to be wealthy... I like it!

congrats, you will appreciate the car more this way. Everytime you get behind the wheel, you will be reminded how much you love the car and how fun it is to drive.

RPM, along with a sense of wealth comes an occasional dead battery.

Note to self: back car into garage next time...

Of course the check engine light immediately came on in the Jetta and its inspection is due now. So much for easy street!

Ouch, let me guess... Bad O2 Sensor, temp sensor, aux air pump, coil packs, or MAF. Thing that goes bad quite often with the Jetta of that flavor is the temp sensor. PM me if you want to discuss. Gotta love the newer VW's with their CEL's. If you can find out the codes maybe it is an easy fix. I went through my rounds with my Passat and Jetta Wagon. Only have the Passat still since it belongs to the wifey.

I have a 2004 Jetta GLI VR6- had temp sensor issues since early last year. Luckily, my local mechanic/garage is familiar with the VW issue and he takes care of me. No coil pack or MAF issues yet, nearly 69K miles.

Jettas are good daily drivers. They handle relatively well have decent oomph for their weight (they're pigs!) but I am very disappointed in the brakes. They totally stink compared to my previous '98 BMW 318i and there is no comparison to the Porsche's brakes.

Actually, the coil packs were done under warranty years ago. This car has been unbelievably reliable and now has 82k. It does need brakes and I already have the pads and rotors. The code (p2181) indicated a cooling system fault and the fluid is good so I am guessing it is some sensor.

Ehh... my Porsche mechanic will figure it out. I even make him work on my Volvo!

Probably your temp sensor. Goes bad quite often.
