Spotted 968 Cab in 1994's Beverly Hills Cop III
#1

968ers,

I spotted a 968 cab last night while enjoying DirecTV's new high definition channel line up on their HD-DVR (e.g., high definition - digital video recorder). A little perk of owning your own custom audio video company!

Towards the end of Eddie Murphy's 1994 sequal to a sequal, Beverly Hills Cop III, the funny man posed as a valet and hi-jacked a gorgeous 968 Cabriolet!!!

For me, the Cab cameo was the "sex" of the movie. The Cab looked to be ruby stone red on a classic grey interior.

Much to my delight, the 968 continued on for several more scenes and trasported Eddie back to a "Wally World" amusment park (yes, I know that Wally World was Chevy Chase's National Lampoon "Vacation" mis-nomer for Disneyland. However, I was so tranfixed by the 968, that I forgot what the Elephant Mascott named the movie's theme park!).

The plot thickens, this Cab looked to be the same 968 used in another film from about the same time period with James some-thing-other (you know, the actor that dates 20 somethings and regularly cameos on Entourage), and a then young and lovely Sharon Stone.

James and Sharon discuss who-cares-what while smirking, spitting and circling the same(?) ruby stone red 968 Cab in several quick scenes.

However!!!! In Beverly Hills Cop III, the 968 Cab "languishes" for many celluid frames to get a solid 968 sighting fix!!!!

Check it out boys and girls.

Good eyes, it is a quick cameo but it is indeed a beautiful 968 cab. As you pointed out, you can see the same car in another movie made the same year. "The Specialist" starting Sly Stalone, Sharon Stone, and James Woods. The car is actually raspberry in color. Rubystone red is a 1992 color and is a solid color. You can see more of it in the specialist and it is clearly seen to be a tip. I'm sure the car is still around but I don't have it in the registry. The only Raspberry car I have registered is a 6 speed.

As the logo reads "where the enthusiasts meet"

As sub par as I remember the movie to be, I'm now on a look out for it just for that scene. Netflix movie added.

thanx and good sighting.

Bob, you mean it has had the seats redone? So you've seen it?

Seats looked classic freaking grey to me!!!

Bob, the car looks like a just a standard new car in the movies to me as well. There are some closeup shots in both movies and it looks like a standard classic grey interior, nothing special. I figured you meant the current owner is restoring the car now and was having the seats redone.

nope - they redid them for the movie - frankly i did not ask why - maybe it was a color change - maybe they were beat - i have no idea - they shot the film in 94, and anything could have happened between the car being first sold and the shooting

lol - i keep hounding the guy at the shop for the uber-rare publicity poster for the film though

It sounds like the shop guy is pulling your leg. Did he say he spent some quality time in his office with Sharon Stone as well when she dropped off the car?? LOL

Anyway, keep an eye out for it. The other raspberry cab in is florida but there is a raspberry coupe in CA as well (along with the mint coupe).

lol - i doubt he was pulling my leg - he does a LOT of cars for film - quite a few get a treatment, even if they are brand new - sometimes the director just wants to see something a bit different, often to work with lighting or wardrobe - it's cheap to do, so why not? - i've seen brand new cars stripped and color changed - easier and faster than shopping for the right color, which may not exist anyway

you wouldn't believe some of the things they do for film and tv.....and then throw away
