"Traffic ahead- 24001 Miles......
#1

So I finally get around to activating the 'lifetime' subscription for the Live Traffic Alert system on the Kenwood DNX5220BT ICE unit that I fitted into the 968 in January at the beginning of this month.

I guessed with all the extra traffic now trundling down the motorway during the summer months, the commute was going to be more bearable to have an 'instant live traffic' info at my fingertips right??

Well you contact the Kenwood info number, and read the very pleasant guy on the phone the 18 digit ref number being displayed on the screen of the unit to 'activate' the traffic module. He then reads back to you (and sends you an e-mail confirm) a 18 digit 'KEY' which when punched into the unit, activates the traffic receiver.

All worked like a dream, as per what it says on the can etc etc. no problems!

Didn't get a peep out of the unit for a day or so......, then one morning, a loud voice says "Traffic alert, slow moving traffic 24000 and 1 mile in front of you!! A few mins later, same announcement, but its now only half a mile in front so im assuming the system thinks its going to circumnavigate the earth first before getting to the hold up ! its been hysterical for the last few weeks, listening to these pronouncements but it makes the traffic problems locally seem not such a bad thing.

Did a road trip with another family to NC and back. Both of us using navs, he had traffic alerts and I didn't. As I was stuck in a construction zone were 3 lanes went to 1, he was miles ahead of me on some other road doing a smooth 70. He was automatically alerted then rerouted via his Magellan.

Traffic alerts can save you a lot of frustration when it works. Speaking of when it works, have you actually hit a traffic jam w/o it giving a warning?

not as yet no, but have got used to the first couple of alerts as being 24000 and (actual distance) in front of me now. Although it does not impress the lady friends that are with me at the time ! lol
